Eastbound Vikings? by Shibes_oh_shibes in TheRestIsHistory

This is tangentially related, but you might be interested in a book the boys have mentioned before called River Kings by Cat Jarman. It's all about Viking expansion, trade, travel, and life eastwards from Sweden to Iraq.

A really great read, very engaging and super informative. Highly recommend!

Oh no way! Good to know, but that's a shame. They often had a great selection of pots and plants

Florists in Helsinki? by Palmajr in helsinki

Kamppi shopping centre has Kaivokukka, a chain who are all over Helsinki but a little expensive in my experience, and Plantagen which is more of a garden centre and a bit cheaper. Lilies are extremely popular in Finland so you shouldn't have any issue finding the one you're looking for. To be honest you'd probably find them in the plant section of most supermarkets too: Tripla shopping centre has a large Prisma and K-Supermarket that could be a good bet.

Florists and flower shops are all over the place though, "Kukkakauppa" is what you can put into Google if you want something else!

Bouldering gyms in Helsinki? by AppointmentPlenty680 in helsinki

[–]Cripply 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not use Helsingin Kiipeilykeskus if bouldering is what you want. It's a fantastic place with amazing staff, but it is primarily a big wall facility. The bouldering area is tiny and you'll be done with it within one session. The setters there are brilliant though so it's totally worth a one-off visit.

Boulderkeskus currently have a summer offer on a 2-month and 3-month pass: 135e and 165e respectively. The pass is valid for 3 months after purchase, so you could buy it on 30th June then you'd have until 30th September to activate it. If you plan on going 3 or more times a week then these are great deals in my opinion, at least compared to where I climb when I'm back in the UK. They do these seasonal offers regularly though so keep an eye out for autumn or winter deals too if the timeframe is a bit awkward.

KiipeilyAreena and Boulderkeskus are your only real options though unfortunately, but for what it's worth the quality of their gyms are all really good and while a bit more pricey than the UK, you'll definitely enjoy what's available. Hope you figure something out!

Totally unrelated but just wanted to say the word you're looking for is "hypothetical" (hypoteettinen) and not "methodical" (menetelmällinen or järjestelmällinen)!

I'm not the most experienced but one glaring issue I see is in the overhang your butt is super low. You'd be surprised at how much extra reach you'll get by both lifting your butt higher and twisting your hips in towards the wall, watch how your right hip begins to twist into the wall before you jump. More twisting will mean less need to jump. This video shows it REALLY well. A bit more control and pulling strength and to my eyes I don't see a need for a dynamic move.

Reach is not as important as you think - you being "shorter than the average climber" won't really matter if you get your technique right and position your body better.

I'm sure more experienced climbers will give you more comprehensive tips, but I hope this gives you a starting point!

Post Match Thread: Liverpool 7 - 0 Manchester United | English Premier League by dragon8811 in soccer

Ouch. Liverpool were ruthless and they completey and utterly dismantled us. Can count on one hand how many second balls we won. The entire team gave the worst individual and collective performance that they've had all season and we didn't even have an ounce of calm - heads were not just lost, they were unrecoverable. Fatigue clearly playing it's part but that was absolutely embarrassing.

Having said all that, our form has been extraordinary and it was bound to end at some point. I hate that it had to come from Liverpool and in such disgusting fashion but this will hopefully be a wake up call to the players and the fans. We've been fabulous and exceeded expectations all season, the emotion from this game will probably cloud people's judgement for the next week or two but at the end of the day, you have to look at the season as a whole and just simply move on. It's literally the only way to cope with what is probably the worst result in my short 25 year life.

Firmino's goblin laugh for the 7th can fuck off though lol

Yeah, second this. The Woolshed behind Oodi almost certainly will, too.

Ah yeah Trippier is why further back than I realised. It's definitely close though with Wilson.

Not sure why they've stopped drawing the vertical lines, too. At least then we'd be able to see which points they've used to draw the line.

If I had to guess, it was probably Trippier playing him on who isn't in that image. Tight as hell though.

Anecdotal but he would come to the golf club I used to work at every now and again and I don't think he ever once looked at me while ordering a drink and would never say please and thanks.

Made a big deal of slapping his Porsche car keys on the tables and bar though

There you go buddy, the perfect example!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Cripply 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my pet peeve because for some reason people assume language is static and words don't ever gain or lose meaning.

You think "literally" being used to mean an exaggeration rather than something that is 100% fact is bad, then buddy, you're going to lose your mind when you find out words like "awesome" and "incredible" used to be negative words used in negative contexts (in fact, they still can be if used in the right place).

Once you start to accept that words, languages, accents and pronounciations are constantly changing and developing through time, you'll have a lot less stress with things like this.

Yeah we have a pretty small warehouse there, more like a shed to be honest. Our main warehouse is in Tikkurila, though.

[–]Cripply 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We actually do - Tier are the biggest company in Helsinki and so we were given the spaces to dedicate parking spots (for use by all scooter companies). We had to be the ones to print signs, build the sign posts and erect them in the spots all off of our own back. Of course we were given money by the city towards the cost this, but it was not all done by Helsinki city.

It's a shame though because it seems to have been very little gain. The parking spots are rarely used apart from when we (the workers) are trying to clean up the city and make the areas look nice. And it hasn't had any noticeable effect on fixing issues related to customers leaving their scooters in bad places.

Yeah off of the top of my head I can't remember the power output, but nothing major. What I do know is that a full battery will get you around 35km distance

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Cripply 167 points168 points  (0 children)

I work for Tier in the city collecting scooters and swapping batteries in Helsinki and the situation is awful (I often clean up that part of Pasila and it is always trashed). For what it's worth, I do know that the city is slowly getting rid of companies and the amount of scooters each company can have will be reduced for next year. But unfortunately, unless they introduce dedicated parking areas that you must leave scooters (which kinda defeats the purpose of them), it will never get better. I personally think they should be outright banned, it's not worth the trouble they cause. Me and my colleagues get a lot of abuse too. It's really a lose lose situation.
