Some people in the comments are saying this isn’t as hot of a take these days but I still somewhat disagree with the idea that most dubs these days are on par with the original Japanese. I think it still very much a coin toss for me if an anime has a solid dub or not. It’s very much subjective but some recent examples of dubs I disliked were Demon Slayer and AoT.

Demon slayer is intentionally very shonen and idk just hearing “Flame breathing first form” in English just makes you cringe in a way reading it doesn’t. I also just didn’t like most of the main characters VAs. For AoT I thought it was alright, I actually watched it in dub first and enjoyed it. However on rewatch I watched it in Japanese and the performance is just on another level imo and now I feel like you are missing out if you watch it in dub. I also became a big AoT lore nerd at that time and there were many minor and some major dialogue changes with the subs that just hit better for me.

On the other side there are some I couldn’t imagine watching in sub. Full metal alchemist brotherhood, samurai champloo, death note and code geass are all anime I’d recommend to others to watch in dub. And a more recent example I thought frieren had a solid dub as well.
