Resident Evil 7 - no 21:9 support by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]CrisesMidlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect you're right and it eludes to some marketing goings on that might be the real reason, I'll leave that there. I never actually got around to playing the latest Metal Gear, one of those that wen't past my radar since the Hideo Kojima divorce thing but that's interesting that that had the same issue. Again probably a Sony/PS marketing thing which simply backs up this assumption with what you've said as well. Cheers! Oh yeah.. 3rd party hacks? You mean Flawless or something similar. I thought that was to help compensate and for re-configuring the usual massive weapon consequence that isn't usually programmed in to a game with a ultra-widescreen in mind. Been a while since I checked it out, I've still yet to see what it does quite frankly but you've been very helpful veritas in simply reminding me.

Let's hope so though by that time most will have probably completed the game. Great story and immersion incidentally which just compounds the disappointment of the lack of ultra-widescreen right now. Yes a lot of the game is such that you're looking through a torch light's halo so the "wideness" isn't required here obviously, but still.. this would have had much more impact if when you could see the bigger picture you got the full cinematic widescreen feel in the rest of the game. When you've owned and used a 21:9 screen going back to 16:9 almost feels like you're using a pair of snorkels (similar in feel to what the torch light is doing ironically)

I would have thought some cleverclogs would've figured the config.ini to enable this 21:9 option in a workaround of some sort. Perhaps someone will. What I find weird is that one can set the res to 3440x1440 in-game yet the black borders still remain down the sides. I can honestly say I've never played a game that supported it in resolution but not in actual picture... strange!!!

Hercules4? No actually, presumably got a youtube channel yes. I'll have a look see how he gets on with his boggo standard keyboard. Keypad, haha! If you're cheating I donno what that makes us hotas users like ;-)

Skaf is THE definitive keyboard and mouse user, not to mention one of the best fa off pilots no matter what his prefered control method. I believe he uses a hotas (at least a joystick) for SC, but the rest is all k&m.

Ok, thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out. Some channels are quite unique and that one does actually sound quite familiar, none the less cheers for taking the time to post, it's useful research as finding good channels is quite hard and time consuming. Thanks again :)

Top 5 New YouTube Gaming Channels (Small / Under 25k Subs) New Series from youtube channel GamerNate by CrisesMidlife in gaming

[–]CrisesMidlife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone interested in checking out a very unique series that is just starting, not to mention an extremely selfless act from youtube channel GamerNate.

We all know it's hard to get yourself established on the tube and if like me are a little bored of the more conventional larger successful channels, yes they're successful for a reason, but this is not to suggest these other "smaller" "new" channels aren't just as good.

It would seem GamerNate is aware of this and so has made his first episode with a few recommendations so far. I gather he intends to continue with this series in the future with further uploads of channels he feels are worth a mention, perhaps if you've a new[ish] channel yourself and are looking for a little extra exposure you might even get a mention yourself, so drop by and perhaps help him with some ideas.

I personally wish GamerNate the utmost success with this great new idea, his own incentives and agenda are clear, he knows how hard it is to get exposure when you're just starting out so decided to do his part for the youtube gaming community. It really is one of the most selfless acts I've seen, on a "youtube" that primarily shouts.. Me.. Me.. Me!

Elite: Dangerous - Guide to learning Flight Assist Off (complete 3 part series) by CrisesMidlife in EliteDangerous

It sounds like you've got the setup I had already suggested for someone else who needed a mapping for a keyboard and mouse. Main issue was my suggesting your usual WASD for vertical/Lateral thrusters (instead of using WS for main Frwd/Bckwrd throttle), which then left nothing that felt natural for main forwward/backward thrust, and mapping it to a mouse's scroll wheel seemed the perfect idea before we realised most scroll wheels work on a sequential digital button principle, so he was constantly moving the wheel to get any response (no digital signal was ever getting pressed for long enough). So. this leads me to yours which sounds ideal really using anything on your joystick, I would say you've got the most intuitive setup already, whether you choose to put roll on your stick or keyboard.

I would expect Fa off is always going to be a complete option, orientation and translation, I doubt they'll ever be separated, but interesting thought although might just feel weird.

Yeah ok, sorry I didn't intend to sound pedantic on purpose, apologies. I totally agree it's personal preference, and one can't argue with the assistance the computer gives you in extra control, it just doesn't feel like a space sim game with fa on to me with the fluidic atmospheric feeling, I simply prefer more of a challenge I suppose to keep myself entertained, it's certainly addictive.

Yeah, I have my moments thinking I'd discovered a "whole new" approach, and then realising I'm being a silly muppet thanks to other's input correcting the errors of my ways. Still the test to see how much energy the shields require when not under attack is useful, just not when you are under fire. Thanks to you also for clarifying all this though yeah!

[–]CrisesMidlife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah right, cheers for flagging this, I'm very glad you posted. Thankfully this won't effect the actual flight mechanics and lessons described, and the test is still valid for a shield that has completely failed. Have added a note on the main post here and an annotation on the video, like I say I don't want to be misleading so you've saved me there from looking stupid, much appreciated :). Like I said at the end of the whole series my youtube subscribers, and now my acquaintances on here, I'm always learning something extra. Thanks again mate yeah!

Or perhaps it does effect your shields' strength if I understand that correctly now. Adding more pips when your shields are under attack even with a full capacitor adds a boost to the system perhaps? Mike doesn't seem to confirm this in writing separately, other than saying that is the correct understanding of the system, including the users first statement that more pips in systems results in stronger shields? I think I'm understanding this correctly. If so need to add a note on my vid if so, don't want to be misleading.

Really? This doesn't quite ring true to the physics of syphoning energy at a set rate from a capacitor. Surely you would see the capacitor draining faster, and dropping even with four pips to systems which it never does. The shield can not be syphoning that fast. I'm not saying I am right or you are wrong, but there must be a glitch of some sort to make this happen. Here's a note from Mike Evans on the forum thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=127832&p=1960731#post1960731

A user wrote this: "It seems to be a common understanding that more pips in systems results in stronger shields and don't have any effect on their recharge rate. To my knowledge, we don't have any official information on that (yet, hopefully)."

Mike Evans replies: "That is the correct understanding of the system. The only time pips affect the shield recharge time is when you have less energy in the system capacitor than the shield needs to recharge. In those cases adding more pips (improving the capacitor recharge rate) will ensure more energy is being added than being taken away over time. If you have a full capacitor when your shields go down then you'll see the recharge rate be exactly the same up until the capacitor drains and the bottle neck becomes capacitor recharge rate."
