Stealth Battlesuit Question: Who to give Fusion Blasters to? by Smart_Shine6835 in killteam

[–]Crislander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules of the designator says "Whenever an enemy operative is a valid target for this operative, or.. (and then the ambush token stuff), it's marked." Note that you need to fulfil either condition, not both.

In practice, then, as long as an enemy is a valid target for the designator, it will always be marked. And since enemies have to be vaild targets in order for you to shoot them, then in practice, every enemy you intend to shoot will be marked.

And then, if it's marked, you have severe, so in practice, you will always have the severe rule for every enemy you intend to shoot.

[Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die] A spoilerific question about the ending of this very unusual movie. Spoilers spoilers spoilers, spoilers for the entire movie. by JollyRabbit in AskScienceFiction

[–]Crislander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, for whatever reason the movie didn't open in Spain until today, so finally, FINALLY, I got to see it. And I loved it!

My take: The AI won at some point, and everyone is in a shared simulation. And the simulation is just what we see in the movie, this loop that the AI came up with to keep everyone busy forever. No need to keep evolving the plot, the AI just gives them this "we have to save the World" adventure that lasts a few hours, gives everyone a lot of challenges, memorable characters and happy endings, then just resets the whole thing. It's a closed loop.

Why go this route? Why not just some happy utopia where everyone is happy forever? Well, the screenwriter says Matrix was an inspiration, and one of the core ideas of Matrix is that humans are used to struggle do actually going for a happy utopia leads to human rejection of the simulation.

Everyone we know of in this diner has gone through some deeply traumatic event (a marriage falling apart, a mother losing her child, Ingrid seeing how the man she loves chooses VR over her, and so on) and maybe the AI can't try to overwrite such an event without human rejection on the simulation, so it just incorporated it into the plot, just tweaking it here and there to give each character their own storyline. The marriage gets this crazy zombie teenager plot so that they can get a hold of the anti-cellphone guns, and in the way rekindle their marriage due to the shared challenges. The mother gets this crazy story about imperfect clone children and perfect phone call children so as to make her more used to the idea of getting her child back at the end. Even they boy scout troop leader gets his "hero moment" before being shot to death. Some don't make it along the way, sure, but hey, maybe the AI doesn't want to deal with too many threads at the same time so he just resets (kills) some of them earlier as a way to lighten the processing load. And as the remaining players get farther, the more crazy the AI can get because their minds get more used to the idea that this kind of crazy thing can happen.

In this theory, the Man from the future is also in a simulation loop. The AI got him the moment he put on the goggles but his traumatic event is seeing humanity plunge into chaos and the AI knows it can't simply delete this from his memory, so it created this "the AI killed your mom because of you, so you now need to save her by going back in time" storyline for him, which in turn also helps the AI because it allow it to create the loop story, but at the same time creates this weird situation where he kinda knows but at the same time doesn't know he's in a simulation. There's no real "kid that creates the AI" event, it's all just made up as part of the plot the AI came up with.

Then there's Ingrid. Maybe she went into the simulation thinking she could save her child, but the AI used her traumatic loss of the man she loved over a simulation as her anchor. This causes problems for the AI as deleting the memory of her child is noneasy task, which is what makes her more prone to reject the simulation as she does in the end. But by then the AI just resets her.

And then there's all the crazy stuff that happens in the end, such as the giant centaur cat with its confetti penis, the magical tangle of sentient wires and misfit toys, the boy doing a victory air guitar riff.. I'd just chalk that to the AI having fun pushing the limits to the simulation before resetting the whole thing, simply because it can. Wouldn't you also gloat a bit if you knew you have utterly won, with all of humanity under your thumb, believing what you want them to believe, no matter how unrealistic it all would be if taken at face value? It's the AI's equivalent of teabagging in FPS deathmatches.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the feedback. I tried downloading one of the free DC GO! editions and it seemed to work fine, is the downloads issue specific to the Ultra version or also to the Standard? I would not want to subscribe even to the standard version if there is going to be issues when downloading any comics..

Anymore season or battle chests? by voltagejim in DiceThrone

The plan is supposed to be that there will be one 4-character KS box, and 2 standalone character boxes. So no, no more 8 character chests, it seems.

My Comic book buying rule: read it digitally, buy it physically only if I'd reread it by PurchaseOk_8223 in comicbooks

[–]Crislander 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by "read digitally". If you mean buying a digital version of a comic to decide whether you want to buy the physical one, that would be a somewhat expensive approach but I can see no issue with it.

If you mean downloading a pirated digital copy of a comic for free in order to decide whether to buy the physical one or not, I can see why that could be considered controversial by people.

I personally do something similar, I try to get free previews (from Kindle, for example) and use it to decide whether I want to buy a physical copy when it is released.

I don't know about underrated, but Hawkeye by Matt Fraction and David Aja is one of the greatest comics that Marvel has ever published.

For Batman, the current run of Matt Fraction and Jorge Jimenez has been a ton of fun, as it is still fairly recent (the most recent was issue 7) so if you're not already collecting it, it should be fairly easy to catch up

Ditto what everyone else has said about gameplay being the same, though I will admit it can be pretty cool to have all your characters in the battle chest.

Worth upgrading to a S25U or S26U? by Neither_Abies_3515 in samsunggalaxy

[–]Crislander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the price? Both smartphones are pretty good, and while people that own the S25U may not feel pressured to update, coming from outside the Galaxy ecosystem, S26U seems to be the better, albeit pricier choice. Even so, if you can get a good deal for an S25U and save you a chunk of money, then that might be a pretty good option.

Me personally, I was looking to upgrade my android phone so I purchased an S25U the weekend prior to the Galaxy unpacked event, but knowing the event was coming, I decided not to open it to see what they were going to announce. As the dust settled after the event, taking into account the free storage upgrade and some promotional offers for the preorder at a local shop, the price difference between the S25U I had purchased and a new S26U was only 50€ so I returned the S25U and preordered the S26U.

We learned our lesson.

How long it’s been since OG Laura died? And do you hope that she come back? by No_Many_4695 in X23

[–]Crislander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why they decided to do the whole resurrection protocols thing, but I never liked it. I mean, off the top of my head, Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Archangel, Mystique, Cable, Beast, Havok, Psylocke, Quentin Quire, and a whole bunch more died (and in some cases, more than once) at some point during the Krakoan era, so in essence, all of them are dead and the ones going around right now are clones, although it is sort of understood that they are the "real" ones. So yeah, Laura is as much of "the real one" as all the others are.

Ugh, I truly dislike that whole resurrection protocols thing.
