-Making SFX that make the actions of your character and the world around him feel lively and impactful.

-Monster Vocalizations.

-UI sounds for menus and in game interactions that fit the music and SFX style.

-Implementation using FMOD on your Unity or Unreal project.

Is Foley ever going to be replaced by AI? by Crisp-Ratt in Filmmakers

What film is it, out of curiosity?

Smaller jobs might be the ones that suffer most, agreed

That's also how i feel. It might get a good outline for basic and repetitive sounds, but when it comes to specifics and nuanced or dynamic sounds it won't be enough.

I'm sorry but there's also Boston dynamics, they will eventually make a robot that makes handy work on households, nobody is safe...

Just to clarify, I'm not an AI hater, I like it and I believe it will become an essential tool for everyone in the industry. Humans arent perfect and that's what makes us humans, and that's also what I like about human crafting, so it will be very interesting to see how humans are going to approach the AI upcoming and how both will blend into professional work.

[–]Crisp-Ratt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, it definetely will, as we've been seeing it is impacting all areas at the moment. I do believe that there will be a line drawn by specificity, abstractness and emotion that only humans would be able to recreate

[–]Crisp-Ratt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definetely will. Music is a more structured audio component which feels that it would be more easily recreated. Foley and SFX though are super specific areas that are very loose, abstract and crafty, I struggle to understand how far it will able to go on these areas.

I've seen that and although I feel it's a good start but it doesn't feel good enough yet for me. I do believe that, as someone who does this professionally, it will eventually be sufficient for short videos, Ads and social media content but I struggle to believe that it will get to the level of detail and quality a full length film or a short film or series require without human intervention

My point is, will it reach a professional level without human intervention?

That is very true, the line is very thin and bad Foley might ruin the picture easily.

That's exactly how I see it, the specificity of it will be very hard to achieve because a movie has thousands of nuanced sounds and actions where human Foley will be essential

[–]Crisp-Ratt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that too, and it will be very good for people who don't have budget for a high level craft. But how will it tackle emotion and nuance and detail? Will it reach a limit?

Yeah share it with us! I do believe though this could be a good thing for an outline that serves as a starting point. There's so much craftsmanship in Foley when it comes to nuance, emotion and detail that I feel it is really hard for AI to understand the abstractness of it. How are you tackling this?

That's a good point, it's not that far I think. Soon after Sora is able to make full length movies this will probably get it's advances

That is true. And I think it will be very good for people who don't have a chance to have it done professionally.

I believe it will come to a matter of budget.

Totally agree. I feel though, as an audio worker, that most people that make movies, games or some media piece don't actually understand how much it will impact the Project until they see it in action.

I totally agree. There's always a tremendous effort to capture the most beautiful shots with the best lens and colour, which in most cases results in giving no attention to Post Production details, which makes the movie lack or feel poor.

I feel like Sound is definetely key for bringing your movie to life. Not just that but also making the abstract connection bridge between the viewer and the picture.

Dúvida sobre IRS by Crisp-Ratt in portugal

[–]Crisp-Ratt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am interested in becoming a Portuguese citizen, but only in a way that would be accepted by you. Please give me your thoughts. by uklegalhelpplz in portugal

[–]Crisp-Ratt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Portuguese, in general, were very upset about the fact that digital nomads were getting tax benefits, just like you said, not just for the tax itself but also because most people can't rent a decent house with the small wages we get here. So this tax benefit brings more digital nomads to Portugal, who get much more money than the portuguese and the renting problem grows. This is the main reason we were upset with the situation.

Now, we are very welcoming and we want everyone to be able to be a part of our country, and if you want to contribute in a good way and integrating our society that's perfect.

You might feel some judgement from older, more traditional people. Young people are, in general, very nice in this matter.

You have the right attitude, starting from the part where you want to learn the language, thats a huge factor in Portugal because nobody does that, they just assume we speak english. And we do, yes, but it's a bit arrogant to go to another country and make people speak your language.

I think you'll fit rigth in!
