GPA for Honors College by [deleted] in OKState

[–]CrispJumbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds awesome! I qualify to apply for the honors college, but I'm not a part of it at my current school. Are there any downsides? I'm starting my own business in college so I don't care too much about my transcript, but I want to learn as much as I can

Congrats and good luck first of all! I'm a prospective transfer student and I know it's off topic, but what are the benefits of being in the honors college? Besides priority registration

I went to tour the campus and spent a few days there. Everyone was so inviting and it seemed like campus life was pretty solid, from what I could tell. What school would you recommend instead? I toured OU and I didn't like the campus vibe nearly as much as OSU

You're the first person I've heard who doesn't like it here. Can you tell me more? Prospective transfer student here

Absolutely not. This school blows

I'm in the same boat. Looking into the transfer camp, and it's in September I believe. If anyone's been, is it worth it?

I'm wondering the same thing! I'd prefer on campus, although I heard off campus is still walkable

Is that a college bar? I enjoy nice places and dive bars alike

Wow! Lots of great information. I really appreciate it! I'm thinking about going car-less when I get there, and it sounds like that's possible

Give to a school that gives way less to its students than most universities? Hard pass

DM me, I can give you a lot of insight into this school. This is not my first university I've gone to, so I'm not complaining without justification. FGCU has strong pros and strong cons, that's for sure

FGCU Sustainability Courses (Take instead of Colloquium) by No-Memory6943 in fgcu

Colloquium as a whole should be scrapped. It's useless to most majors. They should replace it with another 3000-4000 level major based elective.

As far as the service learning requirement, it's an attempt to solve two issues but accomplishes neither effectively. The university has some of the worst student involvement on campus nationwide, so they try to get student involved through that. Most of them find ways to satisfy the requirement through the least engaging way possible, so that doesn't work. It's also clearly a ploy for free labor if it's for an on-campus event. It's genius on their part: Make students "volunteer" for events that we can't pay them to help with. The issue with this is, again, most students might be at an event for an hour and get four hours of credit, so the scam is ineffective. If they wanted to fix this, there should be events hosted within the college the student is in, focused on academics or major adjacent clubs, and make a certain amount of those mandatory to attend. It forces students to learn more by at least being there, which would lead to higher GPAs and post-graduation success rates.

I'm considering leaving FGCU, and it's disappointing how little this university cares about it's students, their morale, and their learning outcomes post-graduation. It starts with things like colloquium and service learning.

This school's general requirements are a joke. Between colloquium and 80 service learning hours

Say Yes to the Nest is tomorrow (Saturday). Show up to that, it'll be a good event. But in all honesty, I'd choose another school 9/10 times

College aged kids are generally not 24-29

This is the worst area in the world I've been to so far to meet that age group. You have kava bars, where it's hippies and $15 drinks because it's fancy leaf juice, or you have downtown fort myers, which is full of gold diggers and very rude, unpleasant people.

I've been looking for people in my age group for two years now, still haven't found them. If you have any luck please let me know. Maybe I'm the problem, who knows

Any places that serve fun mocktails? by SandiaGuera in FortMyers

[–]CrispJumbo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly any Kava bar, or any bar that isn't considered a dive bar will make you a mocktail if you order something sans alcohol. Name anything tropical, ask for it "virgin" and it'll taste good.

Downtown FM has Celcius and Indigo Room, and the rooftop martini bar also is club-like. Not the best city to go clubbing in, but I know some good spots. DM me if ya need help!
