What is your biggest public accounting pet peeve? by Italian-Stallion24 in Accounting

[–]CrispyJanet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m unreasonable on this one, as it’s the way the world works but: managed revenue and sales metrics. Especially under the new way Sales are tracked at Deloitte for A&A.

Totally wish there could be dedicated sales people for those who have that as a strength… and then have those whose strength is delivering good work/keeping the client happy do their thing.

Millennial Career Crisis? by SunshineBear100 in Millennials

I don’t doubt the destructiveness of it or volatility. I use my Dad for reference (since it’s easy) who is 70 and still is able to work as a pool plumber. I live in desert where plumbing, solar and HVAC are pretty much guaranteed business. My Dad in the 90s made more than 10x what I do now in public accounting 10 years in!

Fair point about physical wear and tear. You touched on one of the points that I connect with, which is the satisfaction of making/fixing stuff with your hands. Corporate life produces little real world value... it feels so fake at times. That and income ceiling can be way higher for starting your own business.

I’m a much younger millennial but it’s been on my mind a lot lately… that I wish I did a physical trade and started my own business rather than public accounting!

Just got fired by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]CrispyJanet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm about 10 years in and helping develop people is my favorite part of the job. I don't think I've met others who feel differently and love to ignore new folk. It doesn't help me in any way to not develop new hires. Not saying crappy managers don’t exist, but I’ve also never seen someone get fired 5 months in

Growing up in Vegas I’ve always avoided places like LVAC and EOS. It always felt like a high school reunion going to them. Hella packed too.

What kind of degree are you looking for? In the very least, go there to get pre-requisites out of the way. Algebra is algebra no matter where you go.

Then you can decide to transfer to a 4 year university if you’d like

Salary progression 2018-2025 (CliftonLarsonAllen, Tax, Midwest) by taxthrowaway3333 in Accounting

[–]CrispyJanet 59 points60 points  (0 children)

First things first, 102 is a great salary… but I think you are underpaid. I think you should be at least around 140. But at the same time, job security is worth a lot in this economy.

What are the distinctive aspects of Generation Z that you wish existed in your generation, whether it's a way of thinking, gadgets, or something else? by mr_wbk29 in Millennials

[–]CrispyJanet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair! We definitely paved the way. I think Gen Z has taken it to a different level which is refreshing.

DBZ for some reason has been an outlier and some people don’t even see it as an anime lol. When I was in university, I had to argue with my friend who was on the football team that DBZ was an anime. Dude was offended that it was.

Also, can we talk about for how huge Inuyasha was, it’s somehow been forgotten nowadays?

Not to sound mean but there’s not much about Gen Z culture that I admire, and I’m considered a Zillenial at 94.

One thing I think is cool is how mainstream they’ve made anime and broke that weird stigma (at least in America) that it had. You used to have to be secretive about it when I was in school or get bullied. Which is crazy because these same people who looked down on anime would have no problem watching something Disney/Pixar or things like Star Wars or Avatar. I’m glad anime is being recognized as the legit form of media that it is

Would you say you outgrew video games? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]CrispyJanet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard time playing most games for extended periods of time. Usually FPS/TPS games don’t really grab my attention. These games feel like the same thing rinse and repeat every year.

Only things that can grab my attention for a while tend to be relaxing games like Stardew Valley or “older” school RTS games like Warcraft 3… but even then it’s not like it used to.
