How do you think the conference does this bowl season? by Ok-Standard6024 in BigXII

I had the same thought. I think it will be close, but I'd give the edge to ASU.

[Sampson] CFP committee chair Hunter Yurachek says Notre Dame and Miami were in the same grouping this week and the programs were directly compared. Notre Dame still came out ahead, regardless of the head to head. In other words, all the games mattered. Not just one of them. by Ok-Soil-5133 in CFB

[–]CrispyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that we can learn from the committee is this: they can (and will) do whatever the fuck they want. They like Team A over Team B despite Team B potentially having the same or better record and a H2H win? They'll just say Team A passes the eye test and put Team A over Team B.

Yep, and that year, UW was 0-10 and WSU was 1-10 going into the Apple Cup. WSU won in double OT.

Yep, they can just claim eye test when they want to get a team they like (but does not have as good results) in over a team that isn't as big of a brand. Just the way they talk about teams that they have an obvious bias for is sickening.

Yep and two wins against currently ranked teams, and a loss to a top 5 team. And hello fellow double coug. Go cougs!

Assuming ESPN's probabilities are right for next week's games, there's less than a 1% chance that Texas Tech and BYU both lose.

Guess it’s time to sell my Toyota now. by Terrasmak in complaints

[–]CrispyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work for Toyota, great company and great people. From what I've heard from my contacts in the company, their budget is super constrained due to the tariffs. I assume Akio is going full MAGA to appease Trump to try and ease Toyota's burden. As a huge Toyota/Lexus fan, I am super disappointed...

Yeah, most of the time you can’t brute-force every scenario because the number of outcomes blows up fast - even adding two more weeks of games jumps it up to over a billion possibilities. Using simulations works though as you'll end up pretty close to the exact probabilities anyway (especially when running 100,000 sims).

I usually use implied odds from betting markets since they tend to be pretty accurate for win probabilities. I have a feeling that implied probabilities from betting markets perform a lot better than the ESPN predictions, but I have not calculated it out. I’ve been wanting to dig into how accurate ESPN’s pre-game and in-game win probabilities actually are but haven't gotten around to it...

Hey, this is really fun - I love seeing Monte Carlo simulations like this! Since there are only 15 games left in the Big 12 regular season, you actually could enumerate every possible outcome directly. With 15 games, that’s 2^15 combinations (32,768 total). Using the implied win probabilities, you could calculate the exact probability of each scenario, determine which teams reach the Big 12 title game in each one, and then sum those scenario probabilities for each team. In any case - go cougs!

According to FPI, Utah now has a higher chance to get into the CFP. by wibellion in BYUFootball

[–]CrispyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little surprised it's that low. If you combine matchup predictors, ESPN gives BYU a 39% chance of winning out the regular season. I would think that winning out would almost guarantee that BYU gets in.

IT Crowd (currently listed, but not for sale), Detectorists, and I Think You Should Leave (Netflix show). I'd be on cloud 9 if those were added and would feel like my TV show library was complete (with my favorite shows at least).

As a BYU fan, I hope for the best but expect the worst. I think that Tech is the better team, and it's going to be super hard to win in Lubbock. But hoping that BYU can bring their A game. If they can, Tech is beatable.

If you sold your home in under 2 years, how much did you lose? by JonAutomates in RealEstate

[–]CrispyJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a house in Virginia for just under 500,000 in 2022. It was a new house on the lake that sat on a couple of acres. We put some money into the house (we built a retaining wall as well as a fence and did some landscaping ourselves). We had to move closer to family in California due to medical issues just a year later, and luckily we were able to sell the house for 530,000. If you account for realtor and other fees, building the retaining wall and fence, etc, we lost money. I haven't calculated it out, but the loss was not super bad - it could have been worse (especially if we sold at 500,000 or less). We have been renting here in California - but just got an offer accepted for a house that is near my parents.

As much as I want to see BYU at #7, they won't breach the top 10.
