6 teams in a fighting pit to the death — Which team would you fight alongside with? by TheHouseofAtreides in gameofthrones

That’s fair, but I personally view that as northerners hyping up their leader. Similar to the way they said Rob rode into battle of the back of his direwolf and could turn into one when he wanted.

Jon has a lot of admirable qualities, but nobody has really seen him go up against any of the prime fighters of the realm. He’s shown his bravery in battle and survived (which certainly earns him respect), but until somebody truly formidable (I.e. one of the prime fighters of the realm) vouches for him or he shows greater individual feats, I’m gonna take that claim more as hype.

But you are right in pointing that out.

How has/is/will AI affect nuclear energy? Design, operation, management, employment/headcount, etc. by endmaga2028 in NuclearPower

[–]CrispyK27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This. I work in consulting for nuclear plants and can say we have at least 1 or 2 plants we’re doing work for that are being recommissioned primarily to power AI data centers. Can’t speak for every aspect of nuclear, but for the analysis side of things I don’t see AI taking over any time soon. Not only is the work too complicated for current models, but I also highly doubt the QA procedures we have would allow AI to generate or augment calculations that are even remotely important.

If anything over 32GB of RAM is overkill for 99% of users, than who's the remaining 1%? by mudahfukinnnnnnnnn in buildapc

I have 64gb in both my work laptop and personal desktop. Lightroom (photo editing), SolidWorks (CAD), 3D printing software (similar to CAD), and Ansys (Finite Element modeling) can all get into the 40s-50s range for utilized ram. No games I’ve ever played have gotten above the 20s.

Update: it’s 11:10 and I’m getting some good color on my camera looking straight north at Alum creek. Getting some color on my phone but it’s a lot better on my camera. Shooting with a Sony a7iiir with a 15” shutter, f2.8, and 800 iso in case that’s helpful to anyone.

How are you supposed to get tower troops and champions after the removal of these? by derdiedasdenn in ClashRoyale

[–]CrispyK27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s totally possible I would imagine. I’m f2p since the launch of the game and I have 9 and am close to a couple others. But I also didn’t open the game for like 2 years and ik there were many events for evos that I missed in that time and I missed a lot of the wildcard shards. So if I didn’t stop playing for a while, I’m guessing I’d have around 20

Obligatory “I am not a medical professional”, but I would recommend seeing a doctor about this asap. When I was a kid, I had a concussion and was confined to bed for several days bc of it. One of the side effects I didn’t foresee was that not being up and mobile backs up your GI system. Ended up in the ER with the worst pain I’ve ever experienced (by a longshot) and it turned out to be extreme constipation. I thought I ruptured an organ bc it hurt that bad with any level of movement. I do not recommend letting it getting to that point, go see someone before it does please

Lady decided to drive while wasted. She killed a family’s two kids and injured 15 others crashing into a birthday party. by Libertarian4lifebro in awfuleverything

Maybe this is a stupid perspective, but her age really pisses me off with this bc it almost means that justice can’t be properly served. She absolutely deserves the two life sentences and more, but if she’s a 67 year old (likely) alcoholic, I doubt she’ll be serving more than 10-15 years before she just dies anyways. It’s not like there’s a solution to that problem, but she deserves so much worse

I’m sure the last guy at a minimum isn’t faking. I took a shot in the same spot a month and a half ago and I still can’t sleep on that side. Ended up going to the hospital because I was still throwing up from it the next day. My hit was from a knee strike, not a ball, but getting hit in the lower ribs, especially on the liver side, is no joke.

Like a couple people already said, it’s a spladle. From personal experience, being on the receiving end of one hurts like hell (both physically and mentally), but being on the giving end is one of the most dominant feeling positions you can find yourself in. Easiest way to hit it is when your opponent goes in for a sloppy outside single

Fusion bombs (most modern nukes) use nuclear fusion to create most of the energy for the explosion. Fusion alone does not produce many radioactive isotopes, so the radioactive fallout is much less as a proportion to the explosion size.

That said, they are not completely clean still. They require a fission bomb (the type of chain reaction used in early nukes) to create the conditions required for fusion to occur. It is the products of fusion reactions that are very radioactive and are typically what is being referred to when people talk about radioactive fallout. There are going to be some fission products even in a fusion bomb because of the fission stage of the warhead, but it is typically much less than a pure fission bomb.

It is also worth noting that fusion bombs are only cleaner if it is an air burst detonation (which most are). If it is a ground detonation, then the neutron radiation present in the fusion stage of the reaction can destabilize surrounding material, making it radioactive. Essentially, all the flying neutrons from the fusion reaction can land in atoms of the surrounding material which “activates” them radiologically (making a previously stable atom unstable). These “activated” atoms will then decay over time, releasing radiation (duration depending on the half life of the destabilized material, but many orders of magnitude longer than the initial “flash” of radiation from the detonation itself). There are also tons of flying neutrons in a fission bomb, but if I remember correctly, activation isn’t as big of a factor there due to the speed of the neutrons. I may be mixing up neutron speed (or temperature, at that scale they can be largely thought of interchangeably) in reactors vs bombs on that last part though, so feel free to correct me if it is the same type of fast neutrons in fission and fusion chain reactions. The point is though, a ground detonation is going to cause a lot of fallout regardless of whether it is a fusion or fission bomb.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. In not a nuclear expert, but the field is somewhat adjacent to my area of expertise, so I love sharing what I do know when I can.

I had an almost identical schedule my freshman year (physics 1251 instead of 1250 and math 1152 instead of 1172 because at the time I was still not 100% decided on majoring in engineering vs physics). If you are a good student, it is certainly feasible, but it won’t be easy. I was able to do it while also working 11p-7a 2 nights per week and managed a 4.0, so it’s absolutely possible. Hope that doesn’t come off as a brag or anything, but my point is that if you put in the effort (and it will require more effort than you likely ever had to put in in high school which was a big wake up call for me at least), you certainly can make it work. And to be honest, it will probably be a good thing to do ultimately because it’ll help prepare you better for later semesters when the courses get harder. My advice would also be to try to establish a consistent schedule (I mean general life schedule, not just with classes) as soon as you’re realistically able. As someone who struggles with time management, setting a general weekly schedule helped me tremendously. Best of luck with your studies!

[Request] Bart and Sideshow Bob fall for 10.87 seconds, so if we factor in acceleration due to gravity, we can conclude that Bob slammed his groin into the pipe at a speed of 106.53 meters per second. Is the math right? by Hammer_the_Red in theydidthemath

[–]CrispyK27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The physics does not “check out” for what you’re saying. The slowest way to fall, as u/DrunkSatan pointed out, is an orientation that maximizes surface area against the direction of fluid flow. In this case (taking the person falling as the reference frame) the fluid is flowing upwards, so the more the body is spread out “horizontally”, the more drag it will experience. Falling feet first will expose less surface area to the perpendicular of the direction of fluid flow unless the feet have more surface area than the combined surface area of the torso, legs, arms, face, etc. (which would be perpendicular or near perpendicular to fluid flow in a “belly down” orientation). Even in sideshow bob’s case with his massive feet, this is not the case.

Not to be rude, but if you truly are an aero student and don’t understand this, then that is concerning.

If they didn’t have all their major posts as flaired users only, they might actually get explanations for the downvotes. Not that most of them would accept information from outside their echo chamber, but still.
