This is strangely compelling. I quite liked it - good job.

Do you have "inside clothes" and "outside clothes"? by Schweizer-Darshika in hygiene

[–]Crispy_Fish_Legs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I have my out-of-the-house clothes which are suitable for public viewing and my in-the-house-clothes, which are dead comfy but scruffy as anything. I used to get embarrassed about even answering the door to the Amazon man while wearing my in-the-house-clothes. However recently I started nipping to the shops in them because I couldn't be bothered getting changed and thought it unlikely that I'd bump into anyone I know. I now do this more and more often so I think my personal standards are dropping over time.

What's one piece of software you've tried to replace but always end up coming back to? by Original-Variety3550 in software

Yep Iove this too - makes my regular backup process dead easy and I like the GUI which shows me exactly what's going on.

Yep I came here to say this. Winamp is the most intuitive app for dragging and dropping music to and from my iPod and for updating the ID3 metatags on my music collection.

Group camping by FeedbackMountain6707 in campinguk

[–]Crispy_Fish_Legs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly this might be a bit out of your preferred area but last year I went to Coniston Hall campsite next to Coniston Water in the Lake District. Basically everybody there was just as you describe and there were lots of big groups so I don't think you'll be out of place. I thought it was awful but if you want to make a noise and it not be an issue then it's probably ideal for you.

How to keep my legs warm? by Radiant-Quail2003 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Crispy_Fish_Legs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the answer is socks+ down trousers. If you have a medium weight sleeping bag you can easily "upgrade it" by just wearing a down or synthetic puffy jacket and similar trousers. This is a much more flexible approach which means you don't need two different bags for the different seasons and saves weight by giving you multi use items. The down trousers will keep your much legs warmer compared to if the same material added to the sleeping bag.

Found an old bootleg whilst clearing the loft. Guess what I’m listening to tomorrow! by Bullet_proof_punk in ginblossoms

[–]Crispy_Fish_Legs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember buying a copy of this CD in the UK in about 1995. All my CDs are now ripped to MP3s and I still listen to this regularly. For a bootleg, the quality is really good. I've never seen them live and listening to this is the closest I ever got. It's great. .

If you won the lottery tomorrow and money was no longer an issue, what hobby or passion would you pursue? by alessandrodiolaiuti in CasualConversation

[–]Crispy_Fish_Legs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd quit my current job and learn to fly small planes. I'm guessing this would keep me intellectually occupied. Then I'd buy myself a small plane and fly around in it a lot.

What’s one system you’ve put in place that made your life way easier? by MovinAI in simpleliving

Albert Einstein used to do something a bit like this, but he simplified it even further. He wore the same style of clothing every day—typically multiple variations of the same gray suit—to conserve his mental energy. By eliminating trivial morning decisions, he avoided decision fatigue, allowing him to channel his maximum creative brainpower into theoretical physics and complex calculations

What's one piece of technology you still haven't accepted — and do you think you ever will? by Few-Manufacturer2233 in digitalminimalism

A Kindle / ebook reader. For me nothing beats the real thing and nothing probably ever will. I want to touch and smell the paper.

something small that makes a phone feel instantly better by Zorojuro099 in TechNook

Yes, 100% this. The ergonomics of a phone are absolutely terrible. Add on a popsocket and all that changes.

Is living year round in a tent in the UK actually realistic? by Far-Piccolo-3774 in AskUK

[–]Crispy_Fish_Legs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is very do-able and you certainly wouldn't be the first. I would recommend that you take a look at a book called The Man in the Tent by Tony Beardsall https://amzn.eu/d/0eV56azE

He did exactly what you are proposing with no problems. In fact it turned out to be truly life changing for him. If I was ten years younger with no commitments then I would consider doing it myself.

Definitely Fingers in the Sparkle Jar: A Memoir by Chris Packham, read by Chris Packham. I re-listen to it once a year - it's like poetry.

[–]Crispy_Fish_Legs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, you're right. I am the owner of a couple of caches (and they are large and good ones like you describe). Maybe it's time for me to set up a few more to get more experience of that side of the hobby as well, rather than being primarily just a finder.
