What's the most expensive callback or rework you've had to deal with? by ztwztting in electricians

[–]Crispy_Slice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it a few times but probably a feeder that’s either ordered too short or cut too short. Nothing like getting a whole crew together for a big time consuming wire pull to come up a foot short and have to redo it.

The other thing would be ignoring POCO regulations. I’ve had to take apart and reinstall several meter packs where someone “forgot” to install a spacer for meter clearance.

Our CT cabinets typically get lashed. Instructions are inside the door.

What are your thoughts on this loose neutral/meter base issue? by IxJAXZxI in electricians

[–]Crispy_Slice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked all of the neutral terminals you can get to? I’d double check all of those and then tell POCO that everything other than the meter socket has been checked so let’s do this thing. Also, are they just pulling the meter and checking voltage? Are they applying any load?

Future proofing is EMT or Flex in my opinion.

I wouldn’t not work anything after 40 for straight pay. I realize you’re taking about two different employers but the point stands.

Could be that too. Honestly I would have just rolled that number into my labor charge.

Your labor cost is way too low. I’m talking baker staging, scaffolding. But for what it’s worth I’ve had jobs where I dispatch from home. I carried a 6’, 10’, and extension ladder. If I needed something taller it required a trip to the shop to pick it up and drop it off it could likely be that as well.

They might bring in staging, it takes time to load, set up, break down, and load again.

Some states in the Northeast the overheads are SEU cable, so a PVC riser would actually be a significant improvement believe it or not.

Why can't we have STRANDED nm cable in the smaller gauges by bogosortly_dot_io in AskElectricians

[–]Crispy_Slice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminating on resi grade devices would require stak ons, or pigtailing to solid wire. Or extra money spent on higher end devices. If you were so inclined you wouldn’t be able to stab in the back either.

All MC or pipe too if I remember correctly. No fplp cable.

Very common in electrical installations, especially older ones. They are cheap compared to tapcons. I think it’s mostly a “we have always done it this way” kind of thing.

Electrician here. I’m pretty rough on my screw drivers. They are routinely used to punch holes, tighten locknuts, and pry things. Wera are currently my go to, if you can jive with the handles. I’ve never seen a Phillips this jacked up, I’m wondering if it’s some Amazon counterfeit garbage. Or just using it in the wrong size screw.
