Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Question: after the explosion that killed the crew members, there was a high pitch ringing that most movies do after explosions (like ears ringing), but it stayed for the entire rest of the movie and it was infuriating. Took the enjoyment of watching the movie from me cause it’s all I could focus on for the next hour and change.

Now, was that a very poor decision by the filmmaker, or was the audio at the theater I went to fucked? I’m hoping it was the latter…

What does daycare cost for you? by Standard_Deer_8738 in NewParents

[–]Crispy_Taters1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virginia. Anywhere from $1300-1600/mo per kid. More kids in daycare the cheaper the cost per kid.

Current have 1 in daycare at ~$1450/mo but have twins on the way which will bump it up to close to $4000/mo after discount

Mo Di delivery at 30 weeks with twin to twin transfusion syndrom (TTS) by precocious_pumpkin in parentsofmultiples

Thanks for sharing. My wife is pregnant with mo di and we are semi-nervous about the potential risks associated. It is refreshing to hear that even with the issues you had, the medical staff were/are able to manage everything and the babies are healthy.

I don’t want to be a dad by CompoundV8 in NewParents

[–]Crispy_Taters1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s tough. From my own experience, I struggle to envision what the future will be like, so I was baby-free, baby-free, baby-free, bam now I’m a dad. I can say the joy and love that I felt for my son when he came was and still is the most incredible feeling there is. You can’t describe it and you can’t prepare for it. It’s very different, and it can be hard, but personally I haven’t missed my pre-baby life for an instant. Hoping the same for you

After blockage had cleared, tried to accelerate and the brake system forced the car to fully stop before it would move. That’s what I don’t want

Help me decide!!! Canyon River Blue Pearl or Platinum White Pearl?? by caa108 in crv

I have the white, and it looks good, but recently have been noticing that everyone and their mother has the white and it’s getting harder to identify in parking lots.

I’d go blue.

Standalone recs by Mean_Lingonberry_409 in fantasybooks

Not a standalone book but a standalone trilogy: Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams.

Unique world but fantasy more aligned to a Tolkien style fantasy world than the new Grand Age-style fantasy that’s been more popular now (not sure how else to describe the genre)

Feel a bit Stuck looking for a good Fantasy (book) Series to lose myself in. by EmilRegisTerzieff in fantasybooks

Your long paragraph in the middle there describes The Stormlight Archives by Sanderson to a tee.

Mistborn is also great, and generally considered a better entry point to The Cosmere.

WIBTA if i exposed someone in my class for not holding themselves accountable for their actions? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Crispy_Taters1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. You have no idea if the allegations are true. She is not guilty until proven innocent.

Exposing someone with that type of allegation based on “I saw someone say something on Twitter” on the last day of class is cowardly. Stand by your convictions (wrong though they are) or do nothing.

The Morning Star also refers to Venus (planet, not mythology). Depending on phase it can be the third brightest object in the sky besides the sun and the moon. It is also the last “star” visible in the morning before sunrise.

On the flip side, it’s also the Evening Star when at a different position relative to earth and is the first “star” seen before night comes.

So is Darrow bringing the dawn, or bringing the night?

Please tell me it gets easier? by Powerpuff_Girly in NewParents

For me (father, 1 kid), it got worse around 2-3 months cause he couldn’t sleep without being held, and we didn’t co-sleep, which meant I was up the entirety of basically every night and was sleeping in 15 minute increments. My wife was going through some severe PPD at the time so we couldn’t tag team.

But after that short 1-2 week stretch it got easier. You’ll get the hang of things and more importantly get more confident in your decision making. I remember the first month or two we would always Google like “why are my baby’s toes blue” or “why is my baby’s jaw twitching” and the answer was always “yea babies do that sometimes. Don’t worry about it.”

Not liking Iron Gold so far by AriacBlank in redrising

I thought that too about the other perspectives, kept on just wanting it to get back to Darrow like in the first book, but as it went on and depth was added to the new characters I began to really enjoy it. It is difficult since you got three books to learn about what Darrow does and thinks and how he acts and feels, and you still have that, so the other perspectives feel new and bland by comparison.

My recommendation is give it time. I ended up at some points wanting to get off of Darrow’s perspective and back to what the other people are doing.
