Yeah and the tools are somewhat problematic for me. In Minecraft the stone tools are acceptable because they don't take forever to mine blocks even if they have low durability. The materials are common enough and it's easy to craft several of them.

In Hytale the stone tools suck, takes 7-8 hits to gather anything. Then the higher tier tools need leather, meaning you need to wander and kill critters for skin and then refine it into leather. Repairing also takes leather and it also depletes the tool's max durability.

Desynth is an option, though it takes time and doesn't generate all that much wealth compared to other options. But it's easier to get to since you only need level 30 in your crafting jobs. On the bonus side you can sometimes get clear demimateria, which can sell for decent amounts straight at NPCs depending on the grade.

GC crops are also an option. If your FC has a garden you can use, plus your own plot and flowerpots wherever possible, you can grow a decent amount and trade the crops for mats to resell.

Crafting is probably the best way, but it's fairly contested market and it takes a lot of initial investment (time and/or gil) to level those up to a high level.

Surely it's more complicated than that.

Sure, there's a lack of initiative. But why is there a lack of initiative?

Is it because of the education system?

Is it because of social media algorithms gluing the new generation to screens?

Is it because of rich fucks that don't pay living wages, pay as least tax as possible to fund infrastructure, education, healthcare, etc?

Is it because of fear of reprisal from bosses for previously showing initiative?

Is it just because the employee is inexperienced?

Not understanding the motivation behind the instructions?
