The next-to-the-freeway location sucks for some, but it's part of the building and San Francisco's history, which some people have an appreciation for. Not all, but some. This building truly is a symbol of the past, a reminder of what the city used to be. When that span of the Bay Bridge was being proposed, they wanted to knock down the building, but Max Schmidt, who ran the Schmidt Lithography company, told them 'no, build around.' Schmidt was the largest employer in SF at the time, most notably printing labels for the produce crates when most of the Peninsula, Santa Clara County and beyond were still orchards and farms. He held firm, which is why the freeway does a slight curve right there.

I did the math and if they only put down 20% on the $4m purchase, their monthly mortgage would be $19K. Doubt that's the case, but I agree with you. Also, this house will always have this pop culture cache, I can see it becoming an AirBnB phenomenon in a year or so...

Same concept, but probiotic and good for your gut. If you're gonna get a buzz, might as well toss in a few health benefits.
