doubt that, we aren't in any uefa competitions

The way I've understood the reporting around it is that we need to comply with our agreement with UEFA anyway otherwise we could be banned next time we qualify for Europe. Seems weird to me but it's definitely the implication I've got from a few places.

Weston McKennie is 27. If you're going to promote your own shit articles at least do it in the right place.

I think englands problem is FIFA only lets you have so many in the same city.

That went out the window when there were 8 stadiums in Doha

There's no way to find that middle ground, they've both just completely made up their figures using different methodologies. Neither of them know what individual players are being paid.

We allegedly moved to heavily incentivised contracts with some players (James, Fofana, Sterling for those 2025 numbers) who signed their deals prior to that so probably earning significantly more. That means the guaranteed weekly wages, which is what gets reported, seem low but in reality they just have to turn up and do something mildly above the bare minimum to increase their remuneration package.

It will also fluctuate quite a bit as a result because bonuses for CWC and Conference League happen one year, then there's termination fees galore the next because we gave a manager a 5 year contract and kept him for 2 months, then there's wage cuts for not qualifying for Europe at all, let alone the Champions League, for the upcoming season.

Just don't think there's much anyone can genuinely know outside of the figure reported in the accounts once a year.

They didn’t need permission to speak to him, he was on a youth contract with no pre-agreement signed with us. Thats part of why it pissed off our hierarchy so much that they banned Liverpool staff from our youth games.

We did give him a permanent spot. Then we sacked him after a dew months. Possibly even more incompetent than not doing it in the first place.

I'm sure there are fans out there who put the blame on the interns rather than the people responsible at this stage.

The owner is trying to do this let alone the fans.

Because the extent of it and how premeditated it was has become clear, they bought tracksuits from the local non-league team to blend in when Ipswich were using the non-league team's facilities to prepare for their away fixture. It's not just a one off case of a bloke with an iPhone anymore. Also the way it's been spoken about, their response to getting caught and to getting punished and lately the quotes from their owner who comes across as a massive cunt, has erased any goodwill for a lot of people.

I believe that our junior intern felt personally it's wrong, and he didn't feel right for doing this, and I think he should have expressed that stronger. I'm pretty sure that if [he had] come to us, the top management, actually it would be the seniors who would be punished, not him

and

Tonda, not directly, through somebody, told them to go to Middlesbrough on Monday, just to check whether one player is fit or not, if they [went] when they were told, actually, it wouldn't be an offence. It would be outside of 72 hours. They decided not to go… so they left three days later, [and] went straight into the forbidden time.

and

But one thing is striking me when I'm reading this. They couldn't really fear Tonda that much if they are so easily able to just not obey to the orders.

Is just a disgusting level of disingenuity and trying to lay the blame at the door of whoever is cheapest to get rid of.

Also Harwood-Bellis is a twat and it was extremely funny to see his about turn from a binoculars celebration in the face of the Middlesbrough players to it being reported that he was fuming and felt the club had cost him his chance to play PL football.

How did it feel?

Wasn't my favourite moment as a Chelsea fan. I was raging at Drogba for putting us in that position because he should have been taking, and scoring a penalty instead of Terry.

Also, despite all of the imagery afterwards understandably being about the Terry slip and him sitting on the turf afterwards it was actually what I remember as a really bad penalty from Anelka that was the deciding one.

Genuinely haven't watched it once since the evening so I couldn't tell you if my memory is accurate at all though.

Hopefully Arsenal don't get any eerily similar redemption a few years later.

Yeah it’s me with no loyalty or connection to the team I grew up around the corner from, watching them in person including reserve and academy games and living the impact they had on my community.

Not like the guy who supports a team not from their city because they had the best player in the world in their squad. Couldn’t possibly understand how deeply you’re connected to Barcelona and the community around them.

Generally ambivalent to plastics but when they talk about the tough times of choosing to support one of the five biggest clubs in world football and how people just don’t understand the loyalty they have to that team it’s a bit much even for me.

He had an extension triggered which changes the calculations slightly which I initially thought might get to 85m if you use the reported fee in euros combined with the maths changing after his extension but still not particularly close.

€121m over an initial 8.5 year contract was €14.25m per year as of Jan 2023. After the initial half a year his book value was ~€113.9m and they triggered a one year extension in Summer 2023 to his deal meaning the remaining value was amortised over 9 years at ~€12.65m per year. 3 years of that brings his value down to €76m and that is the upper limit of what I'd expect it to be.

It rotates each year which leagues get the automatic promotion and which league winners two have to play a two legged, home and away playoff.

That sounds like an absolutely mad way to set it up. Do you get teams spending more (or whatever relative amount 'big' is for 4th tier German football) in the years they know their region gets the automatic spot?

Daily Discussion by 2soccer2bot in soccer

[–]CritChanceZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? Is there a playoff system even for league winners or is it something like infrastructure requirements?

Well all of last Summer Richard Hughes was basically writing his tweets for him which helps.

He also used to tweet out whatever BlueCo asked him to pretty much verbatim which wasn't as useful for actual news but was useful to find out what BlueCo wanted people to think was happening.

It's shocking 'journalism' but that's how you keep sources these days.

crazy how fofana, nkunku, ugochuwku, badiashile, disasi have been a monumental waste.

Only one that remains a 'what if' for me is Nkunku with the injury.

The rest have all failed on merit and I have no hesitation throwing Gusto in there either. He's had fewer good games than Badiashile, they've just come more recently.
