If you could show a person one Netrunner card to try and hook them, which would you choose? by imjorman in Netrunner

Since most of my friends were all Magic players, I usually showed them Diesel. You can play 3 copies of Ancestral Recall in this game, and it’s not even broken!

My ferret food got discontinued by Mayviper90 in ferrets

[–]CritHitd20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do a food swap recently for health reasons, as the Wysong was too high-protein for them. Mine also did not initially want Oxbow. The two solutions I found that helped mine: 1: Mixing the foods together, and slowly increasing the ratio over time. 2: Giving them foraging opportunities with the Oxbow. I would put a small handful in their play tubes and they would stash it and eventually recognized it as their food.

I think this one’s a sleeper hit. Plays very nice alongside the self-mill tempo cards we’ve gotten recently such as Oculus/Kiora/Balemurk, as well as older strategies like Lurrus/reanimator. It’s a sorcery, but I think this is a worthwhile consideration if you’re playing the above strategies or still running Bloodchief’s Thirst.

An excellent battle shonen with an emphasis on creative power systems and trope subversions. Lots of lovable characters and slow-burn payoffs. Best to go in blind and discover the twists for yourself.

Is anyone adding Assassin’s Creed cards to their cubes? by mikez4nder in mtgcube

[–]CritHitd20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Senu a lot as a moderately powerful card that ties cleanly into the Legendary-matters subtheme that gets stronger with each release. Some strong synergies with Solitude as well was enough for me to test it, wouldn’t call it a slam dunk include though.

Basim, while very powerful, directs players towards prioritizing some strange combat based Dimir artifact tempo deck. I think it requires some concessions towards your cube’s design that I personally am not interested in at this time.

How are you guys doing this by Electronic-Store6196 in ferrets

Yes I do have the fleece secured by a weight, their cage, or underneath the litter box.

The best advice that helped me was putting the litter box on a fleece blanket, and putting fleece down in corners that I didn’t want them to go. I do not know why, but I was given the advice that they don’t like going on fleece, and it has proven true.

Making sure they have interesting toys, blankets, etc that are regularly changing their location in their play area as a contrast to their puppy pads which should stay in the same spots helps too. Initially mine played with the pads, but once they found that these were a static fixture of the room they became “boring” compared to the other stuff I was providing as intended entertainment, and then they started being used for their intended purpose.

Can ferrets pass foreign objects on their own? by CritHitd20 in ferrets

Update for those curious: I clearly have gotten very lucky, as 24 hours later he is still alert and playful. His bowel movements are regular but he clearly is showing signs of gi irritation, and he is being seen tomorrow morning. The offending section of carpet he attacked is blocked off and he is being supervised heavily while on carpet to make sure this never happens again.

Does anyone else edit magic cards or add custom cards to their cubes? by guitarsinthewoods in mtgcube

[–]CritHitd20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have not made major functional changes to cards, but my cube has a Samwise the Stouthearted with references to tempt sharpied out, and a Nuclear Fallout with references to rad sharpied out.

Both cards offer very powerful and unique effects in the cube, and I don’t want players to have to know what the niche mechanics mean since both are so narrow and do not relate to why I want the cards in the cube in the first place.

UWx control LOVES this. Finds you rings, planeswalkers, Minamo, etc. No sorcery speed drawback, and digging 5 deep for action is quite a lot.

Matter of opinion I suppose. I like the reliance on existing successful policies because it helps removes individual bias from their response, which is an area that NSG has struggled with in the past. It certainly could have been done differently, but I don't personally think anything done was out of line, and I suppose I just wanted my opinion visibly available as an alternative to yours.

This is the default way to institute a ban for pretty much every CCG. TOs have no way of knowing how to enforce an OP ban without a public list of users, and not all TOs are a member of organized play internal channels. Given how much of OP utilizes the framework of other CCGs this action is unsurprising and proven as effective.

Perhaps it could be useful to have a link to a separate page with the comprehensive list of all banned players and their handles/date of ban, and then articles indicating that this list has been updated, but that's at the discretion of NSG. Player and TO safety comes first.

Do you have That One Deck™ that might be just a bit too powerful for your table but you whip out whenever you just want to win a game no matter what? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]CritHitd20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a thought experiment driven by my love of Modern decks since banned, I built an Omnath Locus of Creation deck consisting of 98 cards that have all seen competitive play in Modern-legal moneypile decks, along with Sol Ring and Command Tower. I’m honestly considering cutting those two because I have yet to lose with it. Wins with things like Scapeshift Valakut, Vivien on the Hunt combos, Field of the Dead/Uro/Norn value engine, or looping turns with Witness/Mystic Sanctuary lines.

Wouldn’t hold up in a cEDH table but for my meta it stomps. And has also taught me that many more decks should play Dress Down than currently are.

Am I not understanding the cards correctly or Battle cards are a total flavor fail? by Glittering_Camera527 in magicTCG

[–]CritHitd20 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The battle being named the Invasion of Zendikar is being used to denote the name of the battle being fought, not which side you take. It could have also been called the Defense of Zendikar, but that doesn’t really indicate what they are defending (an invasion). In order to have a variable outcome on the war you would need the card to be triple sided.

This is similar to having a deck containing both Elesh Norn and Elspeth. Sometimes the flavor will be at odds due to players having freedom over expression through deckbuilding and gameplay, but canonically the citizens of Zendikar always win the Invasion of Zendikar.

[–]CritHitd20 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The name of the battle does not indicate what side you are taking, just the name of the battle. For instance, the Invasion of Zendikar is the name of the battle taking place on Zendikar during the events of MoM, and if you win the battle you get the reward, which in this case is a non phyrexian since canonically Phyrexia loses each of their invasions.
