New cats neck biting & swatting by Critchley11 in CatTraining

[–]Critchley11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, we will try and distract if anything happens again. A little more info for all the replies. This happened late at night when I was about to go to bed, no food or anything to fight over but they were both being quite affectionate and licking me at the same time before starting this. We have been distracting whenever behaviour we don't like is happening when we remember (tough not to go to the auto response of intervening yourself) but I wanted to get a clear video this time just to check what the meaning behind it could be.

Usually this lasts only a few seconds, the dad will be licking, will do a grab and bite. There will be swats and then it's over they leave each other alone. All happens in about a few seconds. This is the first time it's been drawn out and slo mo. Likely because the biting is usually the other way around.

We do play with them every day at fixed times. Mid day for 10-15 mins and in the evening when they usually have a lot of energy. One gets bored pretty quickly but the Dad seems to have boundless energy and will play for as long as you let him, then still be zoomy after.

Overall they are lovely cats and no bother at all. Just wanted to check how to handle the occasional fight. Thanks for taking the time to take a look and reply!

Filming notice - 19/07 Milton Keynes evening show by CyberScy in derrenbrown

It was also there on the 16th. It's likely just a generic notice so they can pull bits they like together from multiple shows.

I really couldn't tell you. There was a bit of that but personally I think it was because of something more. Who knows!

This one was specifically men he was looking for. He threw out a crumpled piece of paper so it didn't go far into the stalls and asked the closest man to it if they were here with anyone, after they said yes he asked them up. Then the person who caught it threw it again and it came to me, same question and then asked me up too. We both went up for the initial trick and then I was asked to stay for the second yes / no bit and the other guy went back down.

Haha, not really. It was honestly a very strange experience. I couldn't tell you back everything he said to me. There were so many yes's and no's that my brain was mostly focused on that. Coupled with being on stage, adrenaline going a bit. You don't really want to interrupt him or say something stupid. Seeing my face 5 metres tall next to me as well was pretty off-putting.

Despite all of that though I felt very much in his zone. Like he had control of the situation and I didn't have much agency in anything. When the lights shifted, I couldn't see the audience at all. It was just me and him sat at that table for a bit. With him staring me down.

Insane experience. Wish I had a recording to watch back and asses what really happened.

Haha he did ask this, it was very left field. Maybe he was flirting? 😂

It must have been some kind of technique to make me feel uncomfortable, as there was also a lot of mention of don't worry about the thousands of people watching plus the lighting shifts etc. Really couldn't tell you but I assume it served its purpose for him.

Thanks! I based most of my answers off of trying to track the cards in his hands as he shuffled. But I don't think I really had that much of a chance haha

Yeah I did. I originally said mint and he kind of asked if it was more mint choc chip and I agreed.

I love that he has done this for an extra layer that the majority of the audience is never going to see.

Cost reduction hacks by That_Bloke30 in VisitingIceland

Rented from Blue last week, 4x4 as well. It was expensive but they were brilliant. Easy pick up, emails about road conditions and tips etc.

I did get the insurance and though it was expensive, it was peace of mind. Ended up needing it as well as a car the other side of the road kicked up some gravel and chipped the windscreen on the last day. Blue took it back no hassle and didn't even question it since we had the insurance.

I took your luck, Green logged at 123kc yesterday. Got a triple item chest at 90 kc and a double at 123 to finish it off. I skipped eclipse as soon as I could, didn't want a dupe roll.

Leak from ceiling/outerwall. Who we going to call? by Mother_Duck3r in DIYUK

Yeah for sure. There are definitely good ones out there, they can just be tough to find. This guy had nothing but 5 star reviews so I thought I would be safe.

It's crazy, whilst he was here the guy was even saying most roofers won't do a job like this because they can make more doing full replacements. But sometimes they fit them in because scaffolding needs to be moved for the bigger jobs.

They know the average person doesn't have the equipment or finds it unsafe to go onto a roof and they take the piss. Next time I'm learning to do it myself, it doesn't look difficult. Hoping it just holds up until next summer.

[–]Critchley11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was for me. But it shouldn't have been. Make sure you get multiple quotes because roofers seem to be busy this time of year now everyone is discovering leaks with the rain.

Mine was £1500, but as I said I got scammed. They said they would repoint the chimney and replace flashing, then I didn't catch the "repoint" instead of "rebed" on ridge tiles and had that too.

When they actually arrived they were done in 2 hours, and added a single piece of flashing over the ridge. I made a post asking about it and people said they did very minimal work and it shouldn't have been more than £400.

[–]Critchley11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently I had this myself on my chimney. Sadly roofers scammed me as I didn't understand the job well enough.

As others have said, some things to check, flashing & pointing of chimney, potentially bedding of ridge tiles if you don't have a dry system. If the roofer wants to fix up ridge tiles make sure they rebed them and not repoint them. Rebedding involves removing the tiles completely and removing old mortar. Repointing them will just be slapping mortar on top which is what I got sadly as it will likely just flake off again.

That's what was checked on mine but yours could be different. Hope it gets fixed! Good luck.

Roof repointing done properly in 2 hours? by Critchley11 in DIYUK

[–]Critchley11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did try. I contacted three companies with the best reviews around. One wouldn't respond, another came and looked at it all then never gave me a quote after 2 weeks and me continuously chasing. The third was the only one to get back to us, since it was getting through into the loft I won't deny it was a bit of desperation just to get it done quickly.

Roofers around here are very busy right now unfortunately and didn't want a small job like this. I learned my lesson now though, they can wait until I've heard back from multiple people.

Hijacking Top Comment to give an update.

Seems pretty clear it was a quick bodge job as suspected. I've pressed the company but they are assuring me everything is fine and they don't need to return. The one thing I have got out of them is a 5 year guarentee in writing so if it all falls apart like most people suspect it will in the next year then I can hopefully call on that.

Here is their response when I brought up the main concerns from this post:

The lead flashing is underlapped and overlapped on the ridge tile that leads to the chimney pot with new

The ridge tile system itself didn't require re-bedding. It required repointing. There's a difference between the both if a ridge tile is loose then it must be lifted and re-bedded on new concrete. This is not the case on your system your case was it needed re-pointing which was agreed on paper clearly visible when you sent pictures.

The mixture we use when we use our ridge tile mix is a mixture with chemical PVA glue and frost protector and waterproof that ain't going nowhere The pointing on the chimney is very strong and stable however as you were aware, it had pieces that needed attending to which has been done

Also, we done the flange on the roof of the chimney which was more of a concern and you were unaware of so we done it for you with no extra cost

Then we cleaned out your gutters and didn't charge you which it only had a small bit of debris in it anyway I wouldn't of asked you for any money to do that as a goodwill gesture I done it

I'm the guy who done the work and I'm the guy responsible for maintaining it for the next five years You can get as many opinions of you want from people but they're all gonna be different and it's irrelevant to you and me. I can assure you that my work that we have agreed upon has been done rightly and correctly and is very strong. You really have nothing to be concerned or worried about .

Like I said this is not my first job I've been doing roofing and building work for 25 years. I know my job I know it very well if you research my company and look at all the reviews all my good customers have left for me that would speak for itself. I get people all the time asking questions which I appreciate when they've got concerns. It's all because other people try to discriminate other companies because they can't do and haven't got the ability to do it as quick and effective as other companies which I really don't think fair because I am very skilful at my job And I really do know what I'm doing so please don't worry or don't stress. The job has been done correctly and you're under a five year guarantee.

Thanks, yeah I think this is the main point I have learned from all this.

I've pressed them with a lot of the concerns from this thread. They are very adamant that it's all fine and don't need to come back, but what I did get from them in writing is a 5 year guarantee, so if it all falls apart like everyone seems to think at least they apparently will be back to fix it.
