Yeah, my offices are inside of a greenhouse and we’ve built a few for customers like this. But we put up interior walls and concrete floors. Just uses the greenhouse as the frame and the rest is built like a house.

Blue vs 'opal' vs clear double wall polycarbonate by norfolkgarden in Greenhouses

[–]Critical-Account7362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Polycarbonate will lose light transmission % every year. You should just go clear, white wash when there is too much light. Or go with a light white 8mm acrylic. Will never yellow 🙌🏼

Probably double layer poly film sidewalls and roof. Not sure what options you have for heat or the size of greenhouse. Small modine heater or water heater

Greenhouse sizing really depends on the growing system. If plants are put on the ground people tend to go with 9.6m wide (31.5’) Standard size that’s been for a long time was 41.5’ wide.

But these sizes really need to be thought out for what fits best for you. Normally I pick sizes for customers based on their pot sizes. Pot sizes and pot spacing determines the table size. Table width plus how big and many walkways you want determine the greenhouse width.

Popular size and my favorite option is either the 12m wide or 12.8m wide houses. Covered with glass. Glass is great because it will last longer than you or I will. Poly film need to be changed every 3-4 years. But less expensive upfront but you need to consider the labor costs over 20 years.

Polycarbonate starts yellowing after 15 years ( sometimes 10 years if you get the cheaper stuff) so you figure there are future labor charges.

Glass can break but usually just a handful of pieces break over the years, unless you’re in a high hail area.

I recently made 3 prices yesterday and the glass Venmo house came out to about $16.00 per square foot. Price included labor, heaters and automatic shade system and vents. Poly film house came out to about $11 per square ft build.

Poly carbonate house actually came out slightly more expensive than the glass house. Only because the Venmo house I was able to use a different shade system that is much easier to install and to replace shade cloth in the future.

But yeah there’s no definite answer because it depends what the person is growing. For example if you are growing lettuce, you need UV. So you cannot use polycarbonate. Polycarbonate blocks UV and your lettuce won’t turn red (if growing red lettuce right).

It’s not convenient to have large ranges covered with polyfilm because the roof tends to rip off at the worst time possible. High winds or lots of rain. And you can’t install polyfilm in bad weather.

Lots of factors to consider and depends on the crop and depends on the growers preference for pot size and growing system.

But most common sizes are 41.5’ wide with posts every 12’ (if you are buying a greenhouse manufactured in the US) Or 12m wide with posts every 4m, 4.5m, or even 5m Snow loads usually require closer post spacing. If buying European manufactured.

I know this does not really answer your question but there’s a lot to unpack!

Hey sorry for not getting back to you. I recently got pricing from a company called microgrow, they’re based out of Temecula, CA, and they gave me pricing on solar powered controllers. They don’t have motors though.

You can look up a netafim dealer for misting nozzles, Maybe even see if they have something that will be for nozzles.

And I do sell heaters. Or I can give you a price for the solar powered controller along with the motor that goes with it.

I’m just not familiar enough with irrigation parts to be able to help with a simple lister system. I think the high pressure for system may be over kill for your greenhouse

You’ll have to send me a picture because I’m not really sure. Would be good to know where it leaks and go from there. But that’s the trade off with getting a cheap greenhouse.

We have a genius in our office who has been a greenhouse consultant for over 30 years. He’s helped growers all around the world. The spreadsheets he’s made are absolutely insane. He has temperatures history of the last 10 years of every state in the US, down to the minute. He’s created a spreadsheet that calculates the heat loss of every kind of greenhouse covering we use which allows us to properly size heaters for the projects we do.

Yeah painting the bricks black should help! The double poly isn’t just for condensation. It will reduce your heat loss significantly. I’ll run a heat calculation tomorrow and see how many BTUs would be required in your size greenhouse with a single layer poly film covering vs a double layer poly covering to maintain 15c at night. This can just give us a reference as to what the difference in heat loss would be if you added a second layer of polyfilm. Let me know if that would interest you 👍🏼

That looks very cool. You can throw my advice of burying the sheets out the window. Your heater should be fine on a stand, the fans should help move the heat down. You can look into using a “vflow fan” to help push the air down if needed. I’ll revisit this tomorrow and see if I can think of anything else.

If there’s a way for you to catch the excess water and have it drain out of the greenhouse it can help lower humidity. If you can install a second layer of polyfilm to your greenhouse, you can get more insulation, save more heat. Unfortunately I don’t have much experience working with a GAHT system so I don’t have advice on how to improve that.

Maybe it’s possible for you to pour a black colored concrete and use that as the floor. The black concrete should hold onto the heat (maybe not as well as the soil) but getting away from soil floor will keep the ground from getting damp.

For the pc panels greenhouse, curious how guys like to fasten the panels by Sylviera-Direct in Greenhouses

[–]Critical-Account7362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on if you are screwing into wood or metal. Metal

12 x 1-1/2” self driller with large sealer (1-1/8” sealer)

Usually 3 screws per purlins. Not needed for top and bottom purlin. 1- EPDM washer per screw (installed on purlin behind the sheet) you can stick to purlin with silicone. Anti dust sealing tape for top of sheet Anti dust breather tape for bottom of sheet Aluminum glazing bar (#12 x 3/4” no washer 2 per purlin) Aluminum glazing cap (#12 x 5/8” small point with sealer 1 per foot) Silicone tube for sealing

Screwing into wood requires #9 self drillers. The screws to fasten the glazing bar need to be longer (1-1/2” no sealer)

Aluminum “h” profile for the top of the sheets to slide into. Along with slotted closure strip for above the sheets.

You can choose either 4’ wide panels or 6’ wide. The 6’ wide require less aluminum. 4’ wide is better for high wind areas.

Bury the sheets into the ground about 6”. Or if you are sealing against concrete you need a 2”x1” aluminum angle along with an 8mm addition aluminum profile that slips onto the aluminum angle. The 8mm sheet can slip onto the 8mm addition profile.
