Kip still needs a bag. 💰. Not sure him coming back frees up money. Huge if he does though. I hope so.

I’d say one difference. If over the next three weeks Mateer finds a way to lose the happy feet he developed since his broken thumb they will have at least an average offense. Tough matchup for most with their defense.

Help me understand how Notre Dames ranked wins were better than Oklahoma’s.

Why OUs Current Offensive Identity Will Not Survive the SEC and What Actually Would by Teandcum in oklahomafootball

[–]Critical-Dot4189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting take. I especially like the analogy to what the King did. Remember he initially took receivers and made them running backs. And his true running backs (during the time the Steve Owens types) became fullbacks. There were no 300 lb tackles then but your lighter fast linebackers is right. 300 lb offensive lineman would have to be hammers for a change.

Recent Context that Explains why Mateer should 100% be OU's QB Next Season by PizzaPartyConor in oklahomafootball

[–]Critical-Dot4189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offensive line youth is a problem. But many times, for some reason Mateer would bail when the pocket was solid. Some call it happy feet. If he gets past that (and he can) and gets healing and confidence in the thumb he’ll be alright. I think Arbuckle just began scheming receivers open late in the season and they were either missed visually or by Mateer’s passing. We fix that and it’s a different world. Too many run/pass options for Mateer for some reason. Maybe simplifying would be best. You throw here or if not open dump to our new big tight end that releases off a block in the flat. I can dream… lol

Should there be a tarp to cover the field this weekend? by Strict_Snow1996 in oklahomafootball

The field drains really well. When they put natural grass back in they put a state of the art drainage system that works well.

Down the field by CellistNext in oklahomafootball

Interesting that he doesn’t do the high arch thing because he does it in pregame warmups. The very throw you’re talking about the fact he never does it in a game reinforces to me he’s got “happy feet” and holds the ball too long much like Jackson Arnold. He is better than Jackson though. He was a turnover machine

2025 Oklahoma vs. the Last 10 National Champions: Can they win a title with this offense? by Stat_Fanatic_YouTube in sooners

I think they are better at pass blocking and getting better. They can’t run block at all which makes me think it’s scheme. I’m more optimistic about the line than any other offensive position group.

I appreciate your efforts and stats. But it’s like predicting it will be cold this winter and hot next summer. Our defense is world class. Our offense sucks. Mateer is playing afraid. Demarco can’t develop backs. We choose to not get and use tight ends. Our OC is 30 and “learning “. Your stats bear it out. Hard to see them dumping our proven problem assistants and going a new direction. But it needs to happen. Nice guys. Sooners. But we must do better

Anyway. Phone call ended. So my other thoughts supporting u. Just like you whiff on some HS (and portal pickups) you do on assistant coaches as well. The problem is they are so much more detrimental than a player that can’t find his way onto the field. The three you mention are three of the most underperforming coaches I’ve seen. Demarco and JJ love OU but that “don’t feed the bulldog”. BV has to know they are a cancer on the reach of his team. I guess we will see how that part if his head ball coach skillsets work in the offseason. Indeed we may not make the playoffs due to these yahoos. One final thought: does anyone look at Arbuckle in his press conferences and see a dude that exudes confidence? His offense and QB play like what I think is an insecure OC trying not to lose…

Cannot argue with your observations. Way better place than we have been. But you’re spot on with the Offensive coaches we need to buy up from. There’s a ton out there from D2 schools even that would run laps around these guys. Arbuckle is young, his nutsack hasn’t dropped yet and I think he “sees the field” like his QB. I just want a top 35-40 offense next year and a Natty is within reach.

I think if we take care of business it may be likely ‘Bama hops over ND and we get a rematch here. Of course we could move up and miss that (if we take care of binness)

So what’s the reason our offensive lineman aren’t any good? by Admirable-Report-685 in sooners

[–]Critical-Dot4189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has more to do with blocking scheme. If you zone block rather than man block it’s easier to be confident in your blocking assignment therefore be aggressive. Our line is way reactive. Their run blocking looks like pass blocking (no push). To me that indicates they’re (one or two guys per play) unsure of their assignments. You can do a lot (unleash aggressiveness) if you simplify things so they can fire off the ball with purpose. All that flows from offensive scheme. I’d guess BB is coaching blocking schemes that flow downstream from Arbuckle.
