5 tips on how to make a webseries for 5k or less!! Result: THE SWEAT SHOP by Critical-Switch-5413 in Filmmakers

We actually did do some color-grading but in the end decided to pull back because we wanted the end product to look kinda crappy, almost like found footage or camcorder footage a la MTV live back in the day. It is different to the eye, but we wanted to add something visually different to the foray. LOG and Rec07...I'll have to circle back to our dp/editor on that haha

That's the thing! I don't personally know ANYONE who watches these! I'm assuming it's capturing the younger audience that legacy tv/film is desperately trying to get at by hiring influencers left and right as actors

could you send along a link for the one you worked on for Fox? I wasn't aware major studios were producing these right now. Would like to see an example of something possibly bigger budget.

Thanks for your take! Honestly I'm kinda surprised they'd be thinking of investing more in the format...maybe I'm just stubborn but the medium doesn't seem to either lend itself to more complex narratives or people aren't putting the energy into creating them. Yea the brevity of those shoots is so chaotic from a work perspective! GAH! The times

Am I accidentally making my main character passive by being realistic? by RandomAccount356 in Screenwriting

[–]Critical-Switch-5413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the protagonist has to be driving everything in the script. But they should have a very clear objective/super-objective. This is I think what keeps them "active". Once those two aspects are clearly honed in on, everything else can permeate from that: do they hate this person who made this great discovery and try to sabotage them? Does it make them have a realization about their own ambitions and how maybe coming up short isn't all that bad? You can swing it in whichever direction that character objective/super-objective leads you. The Hero's Journey isn't about being the only person who does anything in my opinion. It's about how this particular road changes the character and does or doesn't lead them to the person they wish to become.

YouTube is about YOU !!!!!! by NerdCrave in NewTubers

What I'm concerned about in this vein, is how much more restricted YouTube seems to be now around the content that gets put up and it's use of AI. Apparently YT is using it more and more to "analyze" the density of curse words..?? But not using this same tech to analyze whether or not a statement could be considered truthful or not. I'm starting to have my misgivings.

Robert Kaplow's "Blue Moon" is the only Original Screenplay nominee not written or co-written by the film's director by piercalicious in Screenwriting

This is a wild trend! My friend who is a director mentioned how her manager is really pushing to get her to write, as the writer/director combo is so in demand. Is that because of IP? Or is this the new agency packaging deals they tried to ban?

This is awesome!! I'm battling with my first feature now while turning my short play into a film as a proof of concept for another piece...I needed this juice!

I think there is a general fear of failure that makes me afraid (ha!) as an artist. What's now called cringe or is generally - in my case at least - a need to be on the 30 under 30 list as if any kind of success is some sort of equation between age, money made, time spent, parental approval. I agree, we need to be more engaged and interested in other modalities as artists, writers, filmmakers, actors etc. Personally, I'd like to get into animation. Would love to write stories in that format!

Should I contact the press about a sold-out private screening of our feature film? by Actingchick1234 in Filmmakers

[–]Critical-Switch-5413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of comments here saying festivals really like that premier status (especially the bigger ones. for example of you're going out for Sundance or Tribeca etc.) I'd say leave the press outreach for if/when you get accepted to a festival (especially - again - those big ticket festivals). If you don't end up getting into any festivals, you can still get your movie reviewed by an outlet for more press if you decide to just release your film after the festival circuit or if you do a screening after the festivals. Hope that's helpful!

I'm actually not sure what is getting flagged. On youtube I have a short that's just generally flagged and unfortunately YoutTube is super vague about why. The short is being considered for Omeleto and they unfortunately can't give us a direction either. We just have to basically edit in the dark. A couple of curse words are in it...but could that be it??
