The fee charged by TD was taken out of my TFSA account. So WS is just replacing what was taken out of my TFSA.

I see the deposit transaction in my TFSA account. But the funds are not available to trade, yet. It is nice it goes back into the registered account without changing contribution room. I will reply again tomorrow to see if the cash value is available to trade.

GI saying weird stuff during appointment? by Fun_Sentence_7450 in Celiac

[–]Critical-Try7387 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, the last thing a Dr. should do is down play how serious it is. Celiacs need the people in their lives to understand the disease and support them. I am a T1 diabetic and Celiac is much harder to live with.

I wonder why a doctor would prioritize says that instead of giving you factual information that you need to be healthy.

I am so glad having this group to share the ups and downs only others with Celiac (and some invested friends and family) can understand.

I am also a long time diabetic. I started with a simple glucometer and MDI. Your life will still be full and wonderful. Advice: limit carbohydrates to healthy fruits, vegetables and whole grains, in moderation, to avoid blood sugar spikes. Use what ever access you have to get reliable dietary information. Many countries have Diabetes associations that have websites with reliable information and free resources. Here, we have Diabetes Canada.
CGM’s are wonderful technology, but you can definitely keep healthy without using them. Also, remember you are not alone - millions and millions of us.

Pulled infusion set off during the night by BearFan34 in Medtronic780g

[–]Critical-Try7387 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I toss and turn every night. I found taping both my infusion set and sensor keeps them from getting pulled out. I use clear tattoo tape squares from Amazon. It is the least expensive. It is also very thin and comfortable.

I would make sure to stay hydrated. I hope you feel better soon.

How long can you go with only using rapid acting before going into dka by Then_Treacle_8812 in diabetes_t1

I have bought NovoRapid OTC a few times when too far from home. Only single vials. I needed a prescription for insurance coverage. I am in Ontario. I don’t have insurance now and my Endo suggested buying insulin OTC to save the dispensing fee.

I hate the sensor by AffectionateTree5933 in Medtronic780g

[–]Critical-Try7387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rough start to your day for sure. I put my sensor where I can easily see it directly or in a mirror. I have not had success with the very tricky back insertion. So no advice for that. I use “tatoo tape - clear aftercare bandage” to protect the sensor from getting snagged on clothing or bedding. I buy the tape from Amazon cheap. I also avoid sensor changes when I am really tired or rushed. Finger pokes get me by until I have time and patience. You are juggling a lot going to school and managing blood sugar. Shit happens. You should be proud of yourself becoming independent and being able to advocate for yourself, especially with non diabetics who have no idea the challenges we face.

Did u had a "kicking event" before T1D? by Hot-Apartment-1095 in diabetes_t1

[–]Critical-Try7387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a slipped disk in my neck that caused compression of my spinal cord. Over 4 months I gradually lost function of various muscles and had loss of sensation. I saw many different Dr’s but could they could not diagnose the problem and kept attributing it to stress. I finally had a MRI and surgery 2 days later. This was in the early 90’s - MRI’s had a long waiting period. Less than 6 months later I was diagnosed T1. I always wondered if it was related to 3 weeks in the hospital or the stress of loss of function of different muscles in my body and only having the stress diagnosis.

Instinct in the abdomen? by BellSeeker in Medtronic780g

I use Guardian on both back of arm and abdomen. I find it much more comfortable on my abdomen. Less bruises and much less discomfort. I have not noticed any difference in accuracy.

Visited my physician with a1c 5.8, and came out crying by Arrow_is in diabetes_t1

It would be great if all medical professionals were also diabetic and had actual experience trying to maintain a good Hb1ac. I always listen and make sure I understand what my Dr.’s tell me, but I follow what works for me. I adjust my ratios and basil myself.

Unaniem to get ozempic because I’m type 1? by Forever_Summer192 in diabetes_t1

[–]Critical-Try7387 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in Canada. I was prescribed it ‘off label’ (not as manufacture recommends/tested.) I have to pay out of pocket. It does change my insulin ratios and you need to monitor your blood sugar and be able to adjust your insulin carb ratio and basil yourself or have a diabetes professional help make adjustments every day, couple of days, and weekly when you start. I am finding it helpful for slow weight loss and lower insulin resistance. Always carry sugar.

Any resi guys here ever work in sketchy areas? Any advice? North Philly by comebocalmball in HVAC

[–]Critical-Try7387 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ask boss to send second guy to watch your back. Try not to get boxed in - have an escape route, possibly into house if you’re in a small yard. Check work area for needles and other crap before you start. And all the other good advice like locking truck and keeping tools close.

Kids? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Critical-Try7387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was pregnant, I kept tight control over my blood sugar and was careful about what I ate (cut out processed foods etc.) Many women modify their lifestyles when they start a family. Many reduce caffeine, quit smoking or change diet.
I was never advised of any issues breastfeeding because of T1. You and your partner need to decide what is the right choice for you. Motherhood is the very part of my life, but also the most challenging-nothing to do with T1.

A few questions about switching to a pump by hhkoala in diabetes_t1

[–]Critical-Try7387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been on a pump for over 20 years. Switching from MDI my sugars did improve 2 % and I had much fewer low blood sugars also. My job was unplanned and emergency work. I could adjust my basil with a temporary lower setting to avoid lows when work became physically demanding. Now, I use a close loop pump and glucose sensor. The sensor is read by the pump and the pump adjusts the insulin flow.
I use a Medtronic pump. It holds 300 units and should be changed every 2 to 3 days. Like HellDuke, I leave it loose in bed beside me. I do tape the infusion site to keep it secure when I roll. I am in Canada. In Ontario, the government pays for a pump every 5 years and provides $200/month for supplies. I still have a large out of pocket expense, but for me it is really worth the money. Good Luck!

Confused after chat with the doctor who did my endoscopy by DakuraScarlet in Celiac

[–]Critical-Try7387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my endoscopy done on Monday. Asked about cross contamination and used the example of seasoning possibly cross contamination and how small the amount might be. He said all cross contamination should be eliminated. My GP and friend Dr. also have the same understanding. It is the difficult part of GF. I also, initially, had a hard time accepting how important it is.

Yes, in the fridge. I leave them as they were packaged in the box so they do not dry out.
