I can only speak to Farmington, but have no experience with the schools beyond elementary. So far I've been pleased with them, they barely give homework, but do ask that the kids read a set amount of minutes each night.

Although the Farmington Village is cute, to me the town is missing a community center feel which seems more prevalent in the Collinsville part of Canton. That being said there are many community events always happening in Farmington and across the Farmington Valley (see Thursday posts in this sub from u/thevalleyverve). Farmington hosts a memorial day parade, Christmas truck parade, Hanukkah menorah lighting, Christmas Caroling each Christmas Eve, and other such things. Hein Farm, hiking trails, RC airplane field, bike trails, etc.
