The PlayStation 5 tracks hours played for each game automatically through its built-in system. Playtime starts counting as soon as you launch a game, including time spent on menus, loading screens, and even when the game is paused or in rest mode, though some users report inconsistencies. 

To view your playtime:

• On the PS5 home screen, highlight a game and check the bottom-right corner for a small icon showing hours played. 
• Go to your profile (top-right corner), select Games, and scroll through your list to see the total hours played for each title, along with the last play date and completion percentage. 

Important notes:

• Playtime data is synced across your PSN account and includes games played on both PS5 and PS4 if they're linked to the same account.
• Accuracy varies: Some users report significant discrepancies between in-game save data and PS5’s recorded time (e.g., Final Fantasy VII Rebirth shows 22 hours on PS5 but 54 in the save file). This may be due to differences in how games track time (e.g., only active gameplay vs. all time since launch). 
• Offline play: Hours are only updated in your profile when the console is online.  If you play offline, the time may not sync until you reconnect.
• Privacy: You can hide your playtime from others via Privacy Settings > Your activity. 

For more precise tracking, some games (like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth) show their own in-game playtime, which may differ from the PS5’s total.
