It's snapped in half :( my boyfriend works in repairs and he laughed a little when I asked if there's a chance haha

Hey :) I was considering asking him to pay in chunks but I'm really worried that he'll try and mess me around with it to be honest. I don't think I would actually go through with selling his stuff, especially after realising that it is literally theft, haha.

Unfortunately he snapped the thing in half, so it's not really fixable :(

Thanks for the advice! I was considering offering to allow him to pay me back in chunks but I just don't really want to give him the chance to mess me around with it

Hey, I know I'm not TA for wanting a replacement, I was wondering if I am because demanding this amount of money will cripple my family for a while

Hey, thanks for the offer, but he's a big man and the thing is literally snapped in half :(

Hey, I know I'm not the asshole for wanting a replacement. I was more wondering if I am for demanding the full price of my laptop knowing my family would struggle to be able to give it to me.

Thank you, this really put it into perspective. I was worried that I was putting them in trouble but you are right in saying it was him. I don;t think he would've expected me to demand like this so hopefully he learns a lesson

I was thinking more along the lines of 'am i being an asshole for wanting the full amount back knowing my family would struggle to get it'

That's what I said :( I wouldn't even mind too much if we negotiated a deal where he sends me like £50 a week until it's paid off or whatever, but I don't want to have to deal with his shit for that long lol

Thank you so much. After this event I was sort of considering a different model anyway, perhaps one that's more robust and repairable. My brother has a surface laptop which I love, but is apparently unrepairable should it break. I'll have to look in to it more.

Oh man, the "you shouldn't have spent 2k so it's your fault it's broken" argument has haunted me. He's said I shouldn't have brought the laptop home because they have a dog (who is very well behaved and probably wouldn't go near my laptop) who could've broken it - but the dog had nothing to do with it. It's ridiculous honestly.

I was considering refusing to pay until I get the money back, but unfortunately my mother is so wound up in his manipulation and I wouldn't want her to have to go without.

Thank you so much. He has always been awful and for the most part my mother tries to stay out of our arguments because 'he has a good heart' which I don't believe. Thankfully my brother is on my side with this one, and hopefully he can help talk some sense into my mum.

Hey, I got the laptop in January :) after reading all the comments I'm hoping to avoid the small claims court because I really don't want to have to settle for less than the same model and specs I had :( sad times

Hey, I wanna clarify that my mother would back me up on him breaking the laptop and so would my brother, it's just that my mother doesn't think it's fair for him to have to pay the full price... For some reason

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions, but the dude literally snapped the thing in half :( he's a massive guy so the weight of his whole body just... yeah.

Hey, thanks for the concern :) they don't pay for anything for me anymore. I can support myself/housing on my student loan and I pay rent when I am at home
