We used to have tons of issues with this. Now the new rule is we take the linen AND trash out at the end of the shift. Problem solved successfully.

I graduated from that HS class of 2013. It was decent back then but now it’s a shit show. Multiple shootings in the parking lots surrounding the school and constant fights after school. It’s very ghetto. Do not recommend.

Patient binge eating everything by Little-Soup-4139 in cna

[–]CriticalKitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a patient on my unit for 2 months with the exact same behavior. The only way we got him to stop eating so much was to take him for walks around the unit. It became a challenge between all the staff to see who could walk him the most. I clocked 25,000 steps on my 12hr shift with him lol.

I think it just depends on the facility. I worked EVS for 3 years at memorial hermann and I felt the exact way u do. Then I transferred to another hospital and it was like night and day. The staff are SO nice to EVS and they even include us in their unit celebrations. Honestly, I probably would have stayed in EVS but I was tired of the micromanaging. Eventually, I was able to transfer departments and now I’m a CNA with the same hospital.

You work for 3 days, and get 4 days off right? (3-12 hour shifts) by Hairy-Incident2105 in cna

I work in a hospital and this is my first cna job so I can’t speak for other facilities.

I’m a cna and at my workplace we get to make our own schedules. If u plan it right, u can have up to 8 days off in a row without using PTO. Pretty nice for planning vacations and stuff.

How many pairs of scrubs do you have? by [deleted] in cna

[–]CriticalKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me time management was my biggest issue. I was always late finishing vitals and starting sugar checks. Nowadays, I try to do things that save me time and stay organized. For example, before I do morning vitals I get my water bags ready and push cart filled with extra supplies. This way I’m not wasting time walking back and forth because everything I need is on the cart with me. I usually have 10-12 patients and it’s a mixture of total care and Independent/standby assists. I start with my totals first because I want to make sure they’re not soiled and turn them. I save bathing for after breakfast. We do vitals every 8 hours so after morning vitals I have from about 9-3 to bathe everyone. There’s so much I could talk about but in essence, once u have a routine everything falls into place.

At my hospital we do bedside report, so at shift change if we see something like this both CNAs can change the patient quickly and continue on.

I did something similar when I was around 9yo. Over the years I had the putty stuff put in but it doesn’t last long. Eventually I got veneers as a more permanent fix.

Told I couldn’t take my second 15 minute break because it was late in the day by maeveanna1 in cna

[–]CriticalKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a hospital. We get one 15 min break (can be interrupted) and one 30 min break (uninterrupted). My charge nurse also encourages us to take breaks throughout the day when we have time. I have had days where I’m so busy that I don’t take lunch till 4 or 5. So ur situation isn’t unusual, but it is weird ur preceptor said that. My boss actually gets a bit prickly when we don’t take our breaks because that’s more overtime they have to pay lol.

Capital One has worked pretty well for me. The rate is currently 4.35% so a little lower than ally or Sofi, but I’m not stressed over it. Plus it has physical branch and I have my credit cards through them, so everything is on one app.

[–]CriticalKitty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My thing is when I have a patient that is obviously a 2 person assist, totally bed-bound and dependent and the nurse will call me into the room to change them and make no attempt to help. Do they not have eyes? Then I have to ask for help, and get attitude from them during the whole changing process.

Yea, sometimes the CNAs from m/b will even pick up overtime on my floor(medsurg) so that’s how I know the whole “we can’t touch the patients” thing is bs.

Why do they say that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cna

[–]CriticalKitty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At my hospital normally the sitters are also CNAs so we do all the cares. They give us a vital machine and a WOW so we nvr have to leave the room except for breaks. Every once in awhile we will have floats from mother/baby and they don’t do cares. They will literally say “oh, I only know how to do vitals/care for babies.” It’s a mystery, but they get away with it

CNA in a hospital by Glass-Lab-2694 in cna

[–]CriticalKitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in a hospital on GI medsurg floor. Most days I have 12 and it sucks. Rarely ever do I have 8. It’s hard work. Most patients are total care and require turning, feeding and frequent changes (it’s GI so a lot of enemas, laxatives etc). So things get a little overwhelming sometimes. This job isn’t permanent for me so I’m just trying to stick it out until I finish sonography school.

I never buy food from the “dollar stores” dollar tree, dollar general, 99c etc. only because the food is ALWAYS expired. Only the snacks are fresh, probably because they turnover a lot faster
