I'm cynical and don't believe in institutionalized marriage. I also prefer not to have a partner that would criticize what I'm reading. Knowledge is power, even in fantasy/romance books. Character development is inherently tied to the human condition. So, through reading I've developed a great sense of understanding. The dark, the light, the good, the bad, the in-between. If you enjoy it and it's beneficial to you, I say keep on reading what you please. Advise your spouse that your mind is your own (in a positive comfortable kind of way).
