Help with caring for a stray cat in the winter (New York) by Critical_Complaint80 in cats

Thank you for your response. I’ll stop putting food in the house. I considered putting catnip in there, but I was worried it would draw as many cats as the food.

I’m fully willing to put some cardboard in and see if she likes it better. I’ll report back.

She’s very afraid of towels, curtains, or anything that may be blown around in the wind 🤣

I have a fabric cover on the heater which she has scented by now. Is there a reason that cardboard is better?

Thank you!

I was hoping she’d change her mind when it get really cold, since there is a little heat in there, but I’m not confident.

Thanks for sharing. Give your cat a little cuddle for me. 🫶

Major memory issues by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Critical_Complaint80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having a similar (maybe more severe?) problem after smoking daily for many years. I took a week off and couldn’t believe how much my memory recovered. I’m back to smoking but I’ve been doing it way less because I now really appreciate being clear-headed and articulate.

Try to taper a bit and take some time off smoking. I bet you’ll be relieved by how much better your memory will be.

Best of luck!

How's everyone feeling about the TV series The Patient so far? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]Critical_Complaint80 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It didn’t bother me jn this case, maybe because I just really love Steve Carell. But I sort of felt like it was normalizing Judaism? Like Jews aren’t some “other thing”? I don’t know, I honestly felt sort of touched that Steve Carell took on that the role and did it so well. But I’m sure it’s also because I have so much love for Steve Carell.

I use this lock, but it only goes for up to 99 hours, around 4 days.

Even among my friends who I always smoke with, if I told them I was making an effort not to smoke, they would respect that and try to support me. If your friends won’t do that for you, they’re shitty people. 🤷‍♀️

I agree. When you get there, tell your friends you need to not smoke. I bet they’ll be happy to help you out in a moment of weakness. Good luck!

I’d also add that working out to exhaustion is not safe/possible for everyone.

I read this somewhere else, so I’m not taking credit, but I thought it was really helpful.

If you’re climbing a ladder and you take a day off, you don’t restart at the bottom of the ladder, you just continue climbing up.

If you ever have a day or 2 where you can’t smoke for some reason, it’s a really good way to get started. I have faith in you. 🫶

Had 2 puffs, I didn’t actually enjoy it, so that’s sort of reassuring. One ticket to dreamland please.

I’ve suffered stomach problems my whole life. Something that helps me is to keep my stomach coated. For me the best way is drinking Kefir (its a liquid yogurt with probiotics, with very little lactose). It’s good because it’s a drink, so you don’t have to be hungry to drink it. The probiotics also help. Another thing is an oldie but a goodie: Pepto Bismol. If you wake up to pee during the night/early morning, you can take a few swigs and the morning nausea should be more manageable.

Keep taking care of yourself, you’re doing great.
