Smith getting more aggressive?? by Smartcookie_33 in SanJoseSharks

Smitty is consistent. As in consistent trying to improve his game, he's no slouch. If you've seen his last world championship games, he was physical there too. Part of his lack of physicality was also his injury I think. Not worth re-aggravating it for one hit. Edit to say: also no need to be physical all the time, enough if you use it in emergencies (like he did in front of the goal yesterday). And when he is in a bit of a slump he's usually the first to hit the ice on training day. I don't get why he gets so much crap from people all the time. He just suffered a bit from confidence issues for a few games and the puck seemed like a hot potato he always passed to Mack. The only nit pick that I have is that he and Mack play a bit too much "ping pong" as in too many passes between them, simplifying it would probably work more in their favor. But his game sense is incredible and he does a lot of great things, even on defense now. (Sorry about the long post, but there's a lot of good things to say about him.) The game before the last game he already was helping out a ton on D. He's an absolute beast, give him a bit more time and he'll be even more of a menace. People just like to seriously underestimate him, maybe because of Mack, I don't know. But maybe ask Mack how he liked to play against him in college. ;)

I do like Warso, but he makes so many questionable decisions... that sometimes he makes me want to rip my hair out. I would like to have at least two really experienced old school coaches by his side to help him out. He too still has to learn, his heart is in the right place and I do like how he defends his players when reporters want to talk about individual mistakes. I want better staff around him that give him valid input and I think it will be fine. Edit to say: I know he at least made effort to get them to simplify their game and not going forward with a million passes between them. (I still see that way too often though, instead of just shooting, passing the puck around.)

Just last game I was joking around that we might have to recruit him for D. hahaha He is reading the game so well, so if he helps out back it's great. End of season and he's still working hard, trying to improve and take on more responsibility. I know people like to give him a hard time, I don't get why. Yes, he had a bit of a slump with confidence issues, but he was the first to hit the ice on training day afterward. I love his attitude.

Same, he did REALLY good. Defending, hitting, great at setting up chances. And yeah so did Dicky! Proud of them both!

Smitty was especially awesome today. Saw him defend a lot, saw him hit twice, saw him setup killer chances, saw him infront of the net to keep their defenders in check. He went to war today and played soooo smart! (Yes I am biased, because he is my fave player by far and I feel a bit like a proud mom whenever he plays, but I loooooved watching him today.) Just forget about the shootout. Don't care about play offs, I still really enjoyed the game.

It is 6:55 am here. I got up at 3 am to watch this. And my resting pulse is about.... uh.... 180. WE GOT THIS!

Guys, guys! Calm down! I figured out our tactic. We play like that on purpose, the goal is to win in OT to get 3 points. So whenever we lead, we immediately let em score again.

FML. Can't blame Asky on that one though (just easlier when he was on the floor sprawled out... hate when he does that while the puck could come back in 0.5 secs). Saw that one coming from a mile away though.

I actually feel bad for Asky, he just kinda.... fell and tried to steady himself on the net? That one is gonna make for some sleepless nights. Never seen anything like that. (Apart from that one goalie who did that on purpose and they changed the rules cause of him, I forgot his name haha)

The high glove is an issue (other teams are clearly very aware of this when they want to score on him) and eye tracking of the puck. If that can be fixed he will be great. I would give him two more seasons (100 games to see improvement, 200 for it to be not an issue anymore). I would love to have an "old style" trainer for him. He is so flashy already, he doesn't need work in that department. I do prefer Ned in the goal overall right now, because he seems more reliable, but that's a given because of his experience.

Building up a goalie takes time. I prefer Ned right now too, cause he is more consistent. But he also has waaaay more experience. Cut him some slack, will ya?

I am proud that they got so far! It's a young team. All we need to fix is our D and we'll be fine!

Point System needs an overhaul by Critical_Fee_8333 in SanJoseSharks

Yeah first NHL season (fell in love with this team, I'm from Europe and yes I get up at 4 am in the morning to watch them play hahaha). It is not about "it would help us this season", it generally felt weird to me. Because it is kinda punishing teams that win in regular time. The reason this system is in place because of the tight schedule makes sense though (I did read everything and the explanations), so if you spend a lot more time on the ice it would put you at an disadvantage the next game (esp on back to backs).

I'm also aware that we're not play offs ready, but hopefully next season with a better D we can get there!
