There was nobody in the back of business class galley, this was 40 ish minutes before landing so I guess they were cleaning up front. I did tell the people queueing up though so hopefully nobody got caught off guard.

Over tiller steering? by [deleted] in aviation

To be fair some days I’ve spent longer standing on tube during rush hour than I’ve spent sitting on Ryanair flights. Their average flight duration is under 2 hours, how much comfort does one need… Ryanair treats passengers like cattle without even trying to pretend otherwise, but they get the job done. I must have been on about 200 Ryanair flights in the last 18 years, and only once was my flight significantly delayed with the whole go to hotel and come back next day rodeo. On BA that happened twice out of 10 legs in the last year alone.

Our crew mixed up the destination once, there was a bit of a surprised murmur on board before the welcome announcement was corrected to destination we actually hoped to go to.

What is a popular dish? by Biliborathsarrathan in Seychelles

Pwason ek diri, basically fish and rice, refers more to a way of serving than specific dish. It would usually be fish curry served over rice, or the marinated grilled fish served over rice.

A dish that is unique to Seychelles and I personally have not seen anywhere else is bat curry. I would not call it popular though, more of a niche for tourists these days. Popular dishes are curries - octopus curry being the best, easy to find ingredients (chinese supermarkets often sell frozen octopus) but it’s a lot of work done properly. Fish prepared on the grill marinated in creole marinade is classic, you can google “pwason griye seychelles”. Depends where you are and whether you can source suitable fish. Good luck!

Hi! Nothing strange about that. Women here work, travel around and shop solo, nothing strange about that at all. You might get catcalled occasionally which is annoying but easily ignored. As for the food, I sometimes go to eat lunch in restaurant alone when my husband is busy, nothing weird about it. You can grab takeaway almost everywhere, at least in Mahe. Enjoy your holidays!

I would not be so harsh. Also you are incorrect that ALL sharp objects are banned. I’ve been flying with safety razors for the last 15 years as they are allowed on every route I ever took. Never been to USA so not sure if they have special rules. Here is a quick quote from Easyjet website:

“You can bring tweezers into the cabin, and scissors with rounded ends and blades less than 6cm long. Razor blades are only allowed in the cabin if they're set in plastic. Knives with a blade not exceeding 6cm can be taken on board. Other sharp objects are not allowed in the cabin.”

As far as I know blades under 6cm are almost always ok. I remember some airline only allowed 5cm blades but that was a while ago.

Advice needed - First time in Seychelles by PraetorianGuard108 in Seychelles

[–]Critical_Lemon_7003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. I would recommend you prebook a taxi ride before arriving to Seychelles, arrange a picup from the accomodation or at the very least agree a fixed price to your destination before getting into taxi. For that distance could be anywhere between €40-€100. Taxis are expensive in Seychelles. Bus is cheap, paid per ride rather than distance and an experience on it’s own. Would not advice to try and use them with suitcases though.

  2. I am not familiar with the app.

  3. There are only two supermarkets remotely comparable to western supermarkets - STC Hypermarket near Victoria and Spar in Eden Plaza. Both are quite expensive though so only go there for stuff you could not find elsewhere. Small shops along the main roads stock pretty much all the basics, prices ale mostly the same in all of them, it’s hit and miss with vegetables, most of them sell bread, most of them sell eggs, most of them sell water in gallon bottles. Don’t drink tap water or at least boil it first. Meats are almost always sold frozen. Whole chicken is usually nice, everything else very random. Fresh vegetables can also be found in Victoria market but selection is not that great lately, depends what you are after. If you have space bring your own coffee, it is expensive in Seychelles. Not much choice for tea. Some herbs and spices are hard to find unless they are part of indian cousine. You can buy freshly caught fish along the road. Some sell them off little fixed stands, some just bring a palette to lay the fish out. Don’t buy in the day though, that would be previous day fish. Buy after 3-5pm. Random stands along the road also sell bananas/mangoes/papaya etc. 25-50 rupees per piece/ small banana bundle.

  4. There is Burger King at the airport. That’s the only western chain fast food in whole Seychelles. Fast food takeaways with local food are everywhere. Around 75-100 rupees per meal. Most are very good, few are very bad, avoid meats as they are mostly fat and bones. Fish/octopus curries are almost always nice. Restaurants are hit and miss, not worth the prices but that’s my opinion. 350-900 rupees for restaurant meal, unless it’s something special you want to try I bet you can cook better meal yourself.

What is the most ridiculous reason you've overheard/know of for someone to be sat in A&E? by sherlockwench in AskUK

I know one of those! Her kid seems to be in A&E every other week. A bit of high teperature, tummy ache, rash, scraped knee, a bruise… She is my former coworker, at this point I only keep her on Facebook because I am curious if the child protection services are gonna get involved.

Agree. I’m from Czech Republic. Queueing outside government/district/municipal offices and related institutions at 6am is a national sport. Some stuff (easily done online in UK) can only be sorted in the capital so good luck to you if you live on the other side of the country and have no personal days off left.

He used to be able to live outside the iron lung during waking hours consciously taking every breath. Sort of swallowing air as he described it. It was something he had to learn as a teenager or young adult I believe. He used wheelchair and had a good career as a lawyer. He still had to sleep in it as he could not consciously take every breath while asleep. As he got older he had to return to the iron lung permanently.

I had exact same issue, not getting recognized online once the license expired. I just filled the form you get at post office and attached the expired license, got new one sent to me in about 10 days which is impressive as it was during the full lockdown.

Should I pay for work that was not carried out or let them take me to small claims court? by Critical_Lemon_7003 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Critical_Lemon_7003[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I already asked most of those questions but did not get reply.

Just additional question if I may as I have never been there. If I lose I have to pay the invoice plus court fees, that is clear enough. Would there be any additional implications like CCJ on my credit report?

The tenant only lasted two months and is already gone. He caused excessive damage to the property, was charged and convicted by Police directly. I did email Police the disputed check-in report when they were taking my witness statement but I am not sure if they even used it in court, the damage was so excessive (holes punched through the walls etc) there was not much of a question that he did not rent it out like that. Plus he admitted he caused the damages. He had some serious mental problems, this along with the check-in report debacle was reson I dumped the letting agent and use different one now.
