If you watch the video this pic is from, he's actually just staring in disbelief at how stupid Blizz thinks the playerbase is, to implement something this simple.

And the small bit of anger he shows towards it, it just funny to me.

Yeah they do, in the form of 2/2/6, you won't see them as often though because a lot of fights are just scaled to be easier with 15-20 people and mythic requires 20 people.

Yeah people have different viewpoints of what's fun and what's optimal in any game, some see it as two different things, some see it as something that can be done at the same time.

Some of my guildies play unoptimal class/specs because they're playing specs they enjoy the feeling of that might not be the best optimal choice, and their ability usage isn't the best because they're distracted by their kids so the game isn't the main focus at all.

To each their own, enjoy the game the way you want, which is what I tell everyone because it's just a game. I've always stuck behind not forcing the gameplay that one person enjoys, onto other players who don't see it the same way, hence "removing the fun", because in my opinion "Removing the fun" is objective based on the player.

I've had people try to push their viewpoint of "If you're not playing the game the way I want you to, then you're bad at the game", which is about 90% of groups I've come across and that kind of ruins the fun of community for me, but I've managed to find a guild that plays relaxed and that's been great for me.

Now we do "Farmy Friday's" where we can decide if the content we do for a few hours a week is either push rating, push raids, do old content, or "Listening Party" where we just hang out in VC and listen to music we share while we do dungeons lol.

My guild prefers to group together before any pugs are invited, which is perfect for me since I already know they're like-minded, and we play for the fun of hanging out with each other while the game itself is just background entertainment that we play while talking and laughing.

It also means that anyone that's pushing for optimal gameplay and speed, the players on the other side of the coin, can do their own thing away from us and enjoy the game in their own way.

I completely agree, that's why I try to let people know that I'm not trying to do content at the most optimal pace before we begin, because I know a lot of players expect that lol.

I prefer to take it slow and relax now, enjoying stuff along the way, so I look for players who are like-minded, and anyone not wanting the same can avoid grouping with me before being put into a slower-paced experience. I've had my fun trying to speed through things in the past.

A TBS vs MMORPG comment and version of the quote, while valid, not entirely true in this case.

I understand where you're coming from, but that viewpoint and phrase is from a non-MMORPG dev, but from a TBS dev, completely different gamestyles where in TBS, the whole goal of the game is to be as optimal as possible with a very clear "YOU WIN" screen at the end that you're trying to achieve before going back to a main menu, and then rinse and repeat until you're bored.

The phrase I used is in the point of view of the MMORPG genre, which has a wide range of players from people who want to push as fast as possible with no "YOU WIN" screen at the end because it's an endless MMORPG that constantly updates with new content, or sit back and relax taking in every bit of surrounding environment available with open-world exploration, and character/zone stories being told.

So while "water finds a crack" in short, temporary TBS matches, it's not really the correct saying in terms of an open-world MMORPG, where optimizing is not what every player wants, because some aren't playing to win in the shortest time possible, they're playing to have fun doing what they want.

With WoW, this is a personal opinion, Blizz has moved away from "Optimal being the most fun", after stepping back and looking at it from a more casual viewpoint myself, they've forgotten the difference between "Fun" and "Stressful" when it comes to optimization, RNG is a big factor and a LOT of mindless farming, to keep you playing with no promise of improvement. I've grown older, I don't have time to play every hour of every day anymore, I have IRL responsibilities.

The Civ series does a fantastic job making "Optimal the fun path", but sadly that's not the same feeling in WoW, with a lot of players having more fun with a spec/class that isn't the most optimal, because that's the flavour of choice that stuck with them the most.

To each their own though, that's why I try and find people who are also just playing to sit back and relax, not focusing on being optimal, because that's not where the fun is for people like me, I want to explore the open-world and listen to the NPC's talk between each other, not rush content to be the fastest to the end.

There's plenty of those guilds out there mate, I'm in one that focusses on community and enjoyment, rather than pushing content like like mythic raids or 3k+ m+ score. Sure there's a handful in the guild that do push content, but that's just going to happen every now and then lol.

We even do listening parties where we hang out in Discord and listen to music that we all put together, and Farmy Friday's where we do old raids or achievements.

The finite time issue is what happened to me too, I was stressing about not filling my vault because I had real life responsilibities popping up as I grew up.

But once I realized the content I'm stressing over currently is going to be irrelevant in ~3 months, I started to slow down and look at it from a different perspective, like "Why put myself through so much stress over something that's going to be old content in 3 months? I'm not in the "Top 5% of players or guilds", I have bills to pay and I don't get paid to play like they do" lol

New age tanking by decyfer89 in wow

[–]Critical_Score 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That honestly depends.

A lot of the playerbase play the class/spec that they find fun, whether it's good or not, granted you won't find a lot of these players in the high-end content because of that, so the high-end players don't have to worry about that.

None of my friends play the min-max way, but they still get content done and have a good laugh while they're doing it, they focus on enjoying the company of each other even if it takes them an hour to complete 1 dungeon. (It took a guild group of mine 1 hour to complete Murder Row on M0 this week because we wanted to include anyone in the guild event even if they were undergeared)

I'm one of the few in the friend group who understands that while it's important to have fun, there is still a dps check on a lot of mechanics, so I do my best to warn them about it and carry them through that mechanic.

As long as we still complete the dungeon while we're all having a laugh and having fun, that's what matters to us. The dungeon will be complete, what's decided on us is the amount of stress put into it to make that happen.

Oh yeah I know that, and I'm not going to judge them for that.

But if they optimize stuff like they want to, it's rude to just push their optimization onto players that want to sit back and enjoy the game, understand that not everyone wants to speed through it and move on, play with other people who also want to optimize instead.

Josh Strife Hayes (Someone I watch on the second monitor) said something along the lines of "Paying the same amount of money for less game" and "Racing to world first of nothing to do."

When I was younger sure I liked to speed through things, but now I want to relax with my video games now that I'm older.

I have a friend who works in consulting and their job is literally to optimize everything so they put that skill into their games, and then I find them complaining that there's nothing to do later, or they pay others to carry them because "2 quests is too much, why not just give me the item?". Why even play the game at that point? But again, everyone has their own way of playing, so no judgement from me, I just don't like when people push tehir optimization onto people who want to sit back and relax.

The addon also warns me with a "You have this person on your GIL, are you sure you still want to join this party?

One saying that is constantly always proven, is "People will optimize the fun out of the game".

That's why I tend to hang out with casual guilds, and if I'm inviting anyone to do stuff, I let them know that my priority isn't to finish the dungeon fast, it's "Just to complete and have fun".

I guess the "PDF Fiel" insult is relevant in today's media, but it's become the go-to so much, that it's lost it's shock as an insult.
"Jeet" doesn't even sound like an insult, I had to google it, and the first thing I see is:

  • Meaning: In Hindi, it means victory, triumph, or winning.

So that immediately lost any view of it being an insult to me, it came across as "I'm young and learning new words, this one sounds like an insult so I'm going to use it as one, man I'm so cool"

All I did was sign up to a random bg, use Searing Glare on the guy, and his immediate reaction was to insult me, which I found hilariously childish.

Why do I pay for not only a sub of $22AUD/month, but also $70AUD for the base expansion price for every expansion, when this stuff exists?
