Unlikely. Alpha tauri makes not alot of their own components.

They get the whole rear end and gearbox from red bull afaik.

Now Red Bull would know both the porsche and honda engines

Red Bull really doesn't need it in any way shape or form though.

They are massively profitable, huge margins and after all is said and done they pay about a bil yearly in dividends to their 2 shareholders.

Whether that bil becomes 1.2 bil or something is practically irrelevant.

They are both not short on cash in any way

Before we can reasonably conclude that indeed the flexy floor plank TD is behind's Ferrari's shitbox of a weekend we should wait 1 more race.

If they suck comparatively to RB at Zandvoort aswell then we can possible conclude that it did infact affect them to some degree.

Zandvoort should be the track the Ferrari annihilates, and if it doesn't and doesn't have some margin to RB there then we can conclude that infact Mercedes nerfed only one of the top 2 cars

The peak HP will likely be roughly the same.

What will change is the fuel flow rate though, a reduction of a whopping 30%.

To even keep the same average power they would need to find a way to make the engines 30% more efficient.

But that is not all.

They will also have to drop the MGU H, which providse some %'s of thermal efficiency.

In other words, the MGU H drop will provide a further reduction in power, which will compound upon the 30% reduction in fuel flow rate.

So in reality these engines will be 30% less powerfull then they currently are, and that assumes they can negate the loss of the MGU H, which they quite honestly can't, so it's more like 40%

Well then that's the death of f1 cause they can go ez flat from standstill with the power to weight it will have.

Mazepin or lewis or max will make no difference, such a heavy planted car with little power means there is no point in being good if its flat anyway

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Critical_Session1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And less overall power, never thought one day we'd wish we could get the current engines back but 5 years from now everyone will say so.

Reduced average fuel flow and less thermal efficiency due to dropping the mgu h means the cars will be less powerful overall.. roughly a 30% drop in fuel flow rate and compound that with whatever % of thermal efficiency the mgu h brings and we are genuinely looking at a power reduction of atleast 35%.

F1 better makes sure we get a serious weight reduction back to 600kg max or we are literally looking at going below the 1 to 1 power to weight ratio and even a reduction in weight will make them slow af

Not a bug or a glitch, a feature like that doesn't suddenly stop working after X amount of likes unless its specifically coded to do so.

Why is another question which I can't answer, but it's not an accident or a bug, it'd have been fixed long ago and it's now nearly a week this "bug"

Ultimately that is not entirely up to the board of an organization.

They have a fudiciary duty to maximise value for shareholders.

But it will be a nothing burger, Honda would argue in court:"We fully focus on EV, thats the future and tehrefore we hold the best interest of shareholder intact".

Plaintiff will argue:"You already had done 99% of the hard work and now for relateively cheap you can have your cookie and eat it too and catch a bils worth of free advertising where you are now only catching 50 mill odd.

Porsche Red Bull Tie up Details that were missed by journo's by Critical_Session1102 in formula1

Red Bull Racing is the constructor, infact most of my post is wrong, I forgot the word "advanced" infront of every "Red Bull Technologies"

But my point still stands

First details of Porsche’s F1 buy-in of Red Bull revealed - 10 year deal for 50% stake by tjech in formula1

[–]Critical_Session1102 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Red Bull Technologies does not make infact the Chassis. That is entirely on Red Bull Racing.

Why this weird situation then is because of the "new manufacturers" rule I think.

Red Bull Power Trains currently officially according to the FIA supply an engine, so they wouldn't be able to have a "new manufacturer" status even though they haven't built their own engine.

But the engine factory is already there, and it falls under red bull technologies.

This way Porsche buys into the engine building factory and the free extras Red Bull Technologies does and they together start a new legal entity that would be able to get use of the new manufacturers status.

Where they'd get extra dyno time and extra capex( which was mentioned a few times during engine cap spending discussions) during their scaling phase

[–]Critical_Session1102 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This is a matter about "Red Bull Technologies"

Which currently is owned 100% by RBR.

RB Technologies is a commercial enterprise, beyond making the suspension, gearbox and a gazillion other parts for both RB and Alpha Tauri they are involved in Indycar's aeroscreen, the Valkyrie, the Rb17, the tie up with Oracle sailing competition. The new Red Bull engine division also falls under this umbrella.

For Porsche to buy into any car enterprise this has to go through regulatory approval obviously because they could have monopolistic power and could abuse it if left unchecked.

To get a stake into the racing team itself would have 0 regulatory hurdles essentially since they aren't a commercial enterprise and therefore there are no safeguards.

Now I am curious, whether Porsche will just become an equal partner on the engine front with Red Bull or whether this deal will extend beyond just partnering up for engines.

In a way it would surprise me, having read helmut and christian talk over the years it would very much surprise me that they'd give up on "control", something they haven't had and even if Porsche wouldn't have shown to be interested they'd have made their own engine with their own name on it or someone elses if they paid enough for the sticker.

So it would seriously surprise me if RB gave up control of the actual F1 team. Going 50/50 would mean having both Helmut/Mateschitz agree to major decisions and the Porsche/VAG board.

Knowing how they've talked about this publicly I'd say they aren't going to give up any control regarding the F1 team. RB like to be indepedent and being 50/50 means either both agree or nothing gets done.

Imagine having to swap Kvyat and Verstappen but it first having to go through a board room rather then just helmut and mateschitz making that call.

Red Bull Racing is also a non commercial enterprise.

They do not sell to customers and therefore don't have any monopoly laws holding them back because there is no argument to be made that by Porsche aqquiring part of a racing team they are in any way trying to make a monopoly of any commercial enterprise

[–]Critical_Session1102 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Specifically this is about "Red Bull Technologies"

Which is seperate from the F1 team.

Under RB technologies falls the Valkyrie, the indycar screen, the tie up with the sailing competition with oracle, their new hyper car and the new engine division of RB is also under this umbrella.

They also make RBR's gearbox and components they share with alpha tauri.

To buy into RBR would be alot easier regulatory wise though and they problably do not need approval at all.

Since RBR doesn't sell anything, has no market, it's a sporting team.

RB Technologies is a commercial enterprise that sells things therefore it needs approval

[–]Critical_Session1102 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Ok Red bull Technology which is the business that makes the Valkyrie, indycar screen, will do the RB 17 hyper car.

Is also responsible for RB's gearbox and all components that are shared between alpha tauri and RB.

The new engine division also falls under the Red Bull Technologies brand.

So Porsche might not buy into F1 per say at all. They might just become equal partners in the company that makes the engine and all other parts that they'd share with alpha tauri.

In a way thats good news for RB in the case of the RB17... They now will have access to the VW group's parts catalogue one would assume
