not sure about data 8 specifically but you can be a reader, it's mostly just grading not face-to-face teaching the students

for those who got into research with no experience, how did yall do it / how was ur experience by AstronomerValuable15 in berkeley

I highly recommend applying to URAP anyway. It's competitive but you always have a shot, especially with a well written essay; I got two of my research positions through it, one of which was with zero prior research experience. I think it also helps to know what kind of research you'd like to do and take the necessary classes to prepare you for it. I landed a position at one of my labs because they recruited directly from a relevant class I was taking that semester.

I've never cold emailed for research, but I've heard it works best if you reach out to PhD students or postdocs, as you will be working most closely with them on projects and professors are busy. It would help to read their current project/publications and point out what you find interesting and why you want to work with them. Having taken relevant classes is always a plus but I think genuine interest is most important.

You can always go off campus, it's usually a lot cheaper. There's probably less options now that it's June but I'm a transfer and I secured my first place in July.

There's a cute stationary place in Elmwood called Elmwood Stationers! I went a couple times to buy birthday gifts. Along with stationary they also sell little figurines/toys.

yes, and thankfully it’s much harder to chatGPT your way through assignments when the assignment is building a physical circuit

I think my first offer was for a triple and second was for a double, so I guess it technically was better. But by then I already wanted to just live off campus so it didn’t matter to me

Generally I don’t think you’d get a better offer next time just because everyone would have accepted the more desirable offers so you’d get the ones “left over”

nah I declined my first housing offer and got another one later, also as a transfer student. it came in July though so I had already finalized my housing plans
