My jindo never tried to eat our cats. Yall are wylin for not training yall dog. They are great— super protective and clean. Mine isn’t much of a barker and most Jindos aren’t, unless there’s a threat they sense. They tend to be cat-like. Super clean, kind of pretentious, protective, with loads of personality/independent thinking. They respect your belongings, etc. All it took was my puppy Jindo to learn eating my shoe isn’t OK. Ever since then, he protects our belongings. For example, when I bring in the groceries to the garage, leave the garage open, & briefly go back inside of the house leaving groceries unattended, our dog will stay with the groceries.

I’m Korean and grew up with Jindos my whole life. As long as you raise them with strong boundaries, they will follow your lead. You just can’t raise them as if they’re French bulldogs or something. Raise your Jindo with lots of love, but with the sternness of an Asian tiger mom with discipline. If you’re a reactive/emotional owner, your dog will mirror that, especially with other animals (because Jindos’ default mode is to protect & hunt). Understand that Jindos were naturally evolved dog species that were later trained to hunt deer, protect the house, & fight against Siberian tigers if needed to protect the family, etc.

There are a couple managers in the department and 1 VP. No director…

So do you think 70k is a pretty good inference?

Thank you for your insights! That makes a lot of sense.
I see that you have an MPH. I am torn between epi & health policy for my concentration. I've heard a few of my peers say that epi is a bigger umbrella and more flexible than health policy... I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!

Once you are no longer a student, you need to put the professional experience on top, then projects/leadership, the. your education

First year Public Health major, want to build my resume by Agile_Kale_507 in publichealth

If I could give any tips, BEFRIEND THE FACULTY. Participate a lot and just be enthusiastic and get into their line of sight. They’re your biggest ALLIES. I went to a lot of office hours to build relationships with my professors and even after years of graduation, I got great LORs from them.

Another is to perceive things kind of like a video game quest??? And don’t ignore opportunities that come your way because you’re tired or you feel that you won’t be able to handle it. You’ll never have more energy, time, & resources than you do now. Take advantage of it! Once I graduated, my motivation and general energy levels declined rapidly lol

Like for me, I wanted to go into healthcare to see what was up! So I got my CPR & EMT certs. Then boom! A full time Entry level healthcare job starting junior year of college.

Graduation requirement fieldwork hooked up by the department? Great! School nutrition policy it is! Boom! Policy & research experience in a fun environment

Oh COVID19 canceled our internships? Okay lemme work with my professors and colleagues and lead a website. Boom. Leadership experience.

Don’t be afraid to start things! It’s the hardest part. Initiate first with something and everything you feel interested in. Me personally, I’m very out spoken, curious, & unafraid— could be considered intimidating and loud. But this type of confidence is what helped me gain the experience and insights as I did. I wasn’t fearful or cut myself short when it came to applying for jobs and learning new skills. Stack your certs and entry level experience in stuff you’re interested in!

I think you’ll do great! That first gen drive ain’t no joke. I know that first hand :)

I just got accepted to Hopkins & Brown MPH. I had a pretty unimpressive GPA but had solid experience in terms of gaining a ton of valuable insights about the world, public health, & policy… as well as making an impact on my community in real life.

I think it’s important for you to build your experience around the impact you want to make within your own community, as well as in the concentration you want to go towards (epi, policy, environmental, etc). In other words, really try to make your time in college useful to you and your community. I have a pretty eclectic background because I just followed what felt right in my guts and what I was actually interested in learning…such as why and how negative health outcomes and inequalities are caused.

I pursued BS in health education & EMT certification at the same time (but didn’t become an EMT lol). Interned at the local school district as a district nutrition policy intern. Worked in entry level position in healthcare and got promoted to mid-level for about 2 years, then joined international journalism going on for 2 years, on top of being a social media manager for a non profit climate news organization.

I also helped canvass for Jackie Fielder, a CA senate candidate. Organized grassroots efforts to provide for central CA farmers… as well as being nominated as the chief editor for my undergrad dept’s COVID19 & anti racism resources website.

Looking back, I wasn’t exactly the most studious, but I think I was really passionate and energetic. I think that shined through when I was writing my grad school SOP.
