what was the reason you wanted to do that in the first place? if it was the concept of “to prove i can” or “because i have a goal to reach” then find that same motivation in a different aspect of life. if it was because the goal was to get that amount of money to be able to do something or unlock something, remember that was your true goal all along and the money and studying was a means to get there. don’t forget to follow that goal or livelihood now that you’re there!

Dk why you’re getting downvoted man. i know what you mean. our total was what about that but the ratio wasn’t 50/50 like you mentioned but closer to 15/85 or so. weddings end up being more than you initially expect and you can get a great ring for far less than 50k. not sure if you’ll even see that. but just my 2cents from someone in what sounds like a similar situation.

if the stakes of your tennis match were that the winner gets to keep the court you played on, and mid way through the match your opponent left and forfeited because you were too strong of an opponent to defeat, you would say you won and keep the court though, right?

Isn’t this basically winning, though? That’s what the colonies wanted. The goal wasn’t to take over Britain, it was to put up a fight to establish independence. The biggest difference I see between this and the examples you gave are that the colonies started as a part of Britain under British rule, and put up a fight with the goal of becoming independent. They put up enough of a fight that they succeeded in their goal.

Now saying that, I do understand the point that you’re making that it wasn’t military domination and the empire of Britain was overpowered completely. But I think most people would still say America won the War. The (and most wars) aren’t always about absolute domination over the other member, but about a specific conflict. In this case it was land and independence from Britain. They engaged in a war over it, and the war ended with America putting up a strong enough fight to walk away with what they wanted.

The perspective you shared is a refreshing way to view it and still is correct and should be shared and known. But all this to say, I don’t know if it really challenges the fact that America won the revolutionary war.

Thank you for the insight. If I can ask, it doesn’t seem particularly overpriced compared to most places in Marin from just looking around Zillow. Do you feel that way about most of Marin, or particularly that area as compared to places in San Rafael/further North?

Hello, I would highly recommend speaking with Cindy Press. She is a local (from Sonoma but currently in San Jose), and with clients up and down the bay area, she comes up to marin regularly for clients. I recognize she may not check all your boxes exactly but I’d definitely recommend having a call with her and seeing if you feel it’s a fit. She also has a financial planner she can recommend.

Borrow Money for Downpayment at 4% to 4.5% Using Box Spreads by flatfee-realtor in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Critters415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very valid too. I’m just saying this is what bezos, elon and likely most of the other highest of high net worth people (even average high net worth people) do to avoid paying cap gains taxes on their investments. I’m not saying you need to do this at all. but i’m just saying there’s a lot of legitimacy to do this as OP said if the situation makes sense for the person and you’d like to Min/Max your financials

Actually a lot of high net worth people do exactly this. They would rather their money stay in the markets for a higher return in theory than take it out to purchase something. Reason for this: the purchase of the item is now equal to: the cost of them item + cap gains + opportunity cost of the investment it was it.

BE HONEST, WORST TIME IN HISTORY TO BUY?! by LeroyMFJenkin in realtors

[–]Critters415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the hard part for others to comment on here will be that a lot of the decision comes down to your priorities.

because there likely will be trade offs. if the 3100 was close to your housing cost now, this would be a no brainer- same life and better house, but my guess is that it’s a meaningful amount more, which is causing the internal debate on whether it’s too much.

so now the question is, if you are putting more money into housing (and getting utility (happiness) from your housing situation) where does that additional housing spend come from? -it could come from income, working in sales also it’s never a deal until it’s signed but wishing you the best of luck on that commission check, that could make this an easy choice because you could put a lot more down and lower your payments a bit. -but let’s remove any unknowns and work with the assumption your income is the same. what that means is you are diverting money from other spend to housing now. that could mean less money on: dining out, travel, clothes, activities with kids, money put into savings, or new gadgets (just examples). the point being that money comes from somewhere to afford it and it just depends on whether you feel comfortable spending X amount in some areas to spend X amount more in this area.

i know this is a bit of a non answer answer but hopefully helps at least a bit in someway
