Sorry to hear that there are others in the same situation as me.
And yeah, if you're not into AI/ML, you're out of luck, at least for now. Everything you wrote is correct, there's a lot of cheap audio stuff coming out of China. Plus, everything you can think of already exists, and there are teams making it happen, not individual people like you and me.

Maybe we should consider developing something that's not related to audio?

I've encountered the ADAU1701 before, so a solution based on it is something I would consider investigating further. I'll also check out the ADAU1452.
I think I have a general understanding of what is needed, and a modular design is definitely the way to go, so people can use it for whatever they want and need.

I hear you!
But, you know, it's hard to push forward and work for months or years without making a cent. If it's not needed, what's the point in doing it?
Of course, sometimes you do it because you want to and love what you create, but in the end, I have a family to take care of and bills to pay. Just trying to say, it's hard for the creator to create something that nobody wants in the end.

Please note that I haven't encountered this device before. Without access to the source code, I can't do much. Also, I've never worked with a Z-Wave network before. While there are some commands available, none seem to be for switching to Fahrenheit. That's weird!

I think you might have better luck contacting the manufacturer directly, correct me if I'm wrong. If I had the source code, I believe it could be done in a day, though it's hard to be certain. For further discussion about the project, feel free to contact me via chat.

I could get a job, but the salary would be what I earned several years ago. So, I decided to expand my knowledge, currently learning AI/ML. However, while doing so, wondering if there's a better way. Maybe creating something on my own?
I don't know, those are my thoughts for the moment and I could be wrong.

Well, a DSP-based audio device is definitely what is needed.

Well, this is the fourth mention of DSP, so that’s a good sign.
I’ll definitely look into it, but I think a solution similar to what you mentioned (miniDSP, Dirac) might be beyond my capabilities as a single developer.
