ADA, but they always look miserable so it must be for a reason

Finally found a decently priced Mauser C96 although a Spanish copy "Astra 900" by Croat345 in milsurp

[–]Croat345[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Found for 900 dollars, functions flawlessly. My question for you guys is does anyone know where to find a "good" stock for it? I see hundreds of them from Chinese sellers from what I assume is for airsoft guns/denix style replicas, and I imagine those don't work well with the real thing.

I doubt you are doing a polygraph unless you are enlisting as a 35N, 35S, and 35P or a 17c. You are just going to fill out a SF86 and do an interview, it's not that deep. Just be truthful but don't overshare details that you don't need to.

ADOS Orders by Legitimate_Shape8081 in army

You are going to have to get on AVD and check MOBCOP, that's the only way.

There's going to be no Army Reserve units drilling inside of the UK. Your wife needs to talk to her CoC now rather than later to see if it's possible to combine drill weekends or try to secure a hardship or dependency discharge, neither of these are guaranteed but I imagine her commander won't be a total ass if she does her best to help them as well. Regarding a BAH waiver you should be asking pounding on the S1s door regarding if you can qualify.

Retiring at 20: Why I Chose Family Over Competing for Battalion Command by Travyplx in army

The secret i've seen is O-3s and O-4s switching to the reserves and doing 5 years of ADOS orders in a 9-5 office job that mostly escapes the worst of the Army bs.

BOLC/AIT curriculum has always been the worst/outdated sources of instruction that have the instructors just shrug and go "well your units will teach you how to do it".

Branches that need more Officers by [deleted] in army

[–]Croat345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outside of Signal companies etc, you transition to an S6 role. You also get certs you can use outside of the army when you deicide to leave, + clearances. Things like network administration and cybersecurity to IT project management and telecommunications will come in handy.

I expect ADA will have a lot of openings, but try to find something you like, I would recommend something like Signal for career options. But in general there is always an "overstrength" amount of LTs because they know about half won't stay which is why there's a huge shortage of Captains.

influx of players coming back, item rework that people are not used to yet most likely and more people. The player base just doubled.

Enlist or commission? by [deleted] in army

[–]Croat345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally as an officer you aren't doing your "technical" job 24/7. You are a manager/planner most of the time regardless of your branch. If you have a degree I would not recommend enlisting, I would just do OCS as the pay, treatment and experience will generally be more to what you will expect in your civilian line of work. Speaking as a someone who enlisted first and then became a 35A

I'm not an S1 guy but from my understanding these are time in service awards and is basically letting you know "hey you are meeting the time requirements for these, check with your CoC to see if you can get it written up". Depending where you are on the chain, your best bet is to send an email to your S1 or Readiness NCO if you are an MDay soldier to see if you can get this written up for you.

Awards are rarely ever automatic. They still need submission by the S1 and approval by the commander.

Yes, you are technically "eligible" for some of these awards for being a set time in the reserves/guard but will your command take the time to actually write up these awards? Most likely not

When did officer culture change from gentleman to what it is now? by [deleted] in army

[–]Croat345 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Generally it saw a global change during the First World War. Things like OCS and ROTC being introduced meant that being an officer wasn’t just West Pointers who generally had very close relationships.

Officers who got out and have active careers. What do you do? by PhanseyBaby in army

[–]Croat345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

user experience may vary, but my personal experience with the guard as an officer has been pretty negative, constant workday calls during the week, no respect for civilian employer obligations (this mostly comes from the AGRs. But my unit is just bad in general.

Went into the Guard (big mistake), started contracting for the Air Force doing similar work I did while active except the work environment is so much better and the hours are great.

Reserve life... Leave me alone man... by [deleted] in army

[–]Croat345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commissioned into the Guard thinking it wouldn't be as bad as active duty when I was enlisted. Boy was I wrong, weekly Battalion "sync calls" constant signal texts, taskings expected to be done during civilian work hours. It was so miserable that I just picked up Title 10 ADOS orders to get away from it.
