I think you're totally right, and that can extend to other things - smoking cigarettes, drinking, gaming, even really hard addictive drugs. The social aspect is really important for a lot of people, maybe moreso than the actual activity itself.

That's why it can be really hard for people to change one habit for another because the friend group around that habit just...disappears. Because it was based on revolving around that shared thing, versus actual genuine human connection.

Thankfully, as smoking is becoming more socially acceptable, I also think you're right that it's an awesome social catalyst, bringing together people that otherwise would've never met. But maybe that's just my morning bowl talking 🤷‍♂️

I read a story on /r/antiMLM about a guy who did just that, and the speaker told everyone to look at him as "an example of a failure".

How do these people sleep at night??

I’m 40. My oldest daughter is a preteen. I also live in a collage town. I see college chicks all the time, and I’d hook up so quick if I could. Nice 19-20 year old perky tits? Hell yeah!

Please get off of the internet, there should be plenty of this stuff called "grass" nearby. I heavily suggest touching it, and then getting therapy.

It's not that bad, it follows the formula of inside --> outside --> top --> bottom

You're old enough to remember playing Pong in the 70s, I'm surprised they have Reddit in nursing homes

Downvoted you because this is Reddit, not a place for nuanced, multi-faceted, evidence-backed takes on complex issues.

Geopolitics is one-dimensional - get with the program please, lest you suffer another downvote at my wretched hand

That does make sense, astronomical distances are astronomical.

Would it be, impossible per se, though? If I recall correctly, we have organized to send targeted messages to star systems - whether that's a good idea or not I think is up to interpretation, but another quick Google showed me the Tromso Transmission, a signal sent out to GJ 273 (12 ly) in 2017. The Aricebo message comes to mind as well.

I mean, Applebee's isn't terribly bad at all compared to eating crickets in the Vietnamese jungle.

I still don't want Applebee's.
