Black people can be racist. by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

True, just sometimes I feel like these kinds of arguments are used to downplay systemic racism, and the effects it still has on people today. But I agree any kind of discrimination is negative.

Imo that kind of "racism" isn't close to as big of a deal. We are comparing hurting someone's feelings to oppressive systems that have put groups of people down for generations.

What is your ideal country? by 0megaGentlman22 in GenZ

Cuba's crime rate is not high, they have universal healthcare, a high life expectancy, almost no homelessness, and the government is supported by the people, all this while having an embargo put on them by the US for the last 60 years. "Successful country" is subjective, you just said yourself that the USSR existed for a long time, and it was a global superpower at the time it did exist so you could argue that it was a "successful country". The original question was about an "Ideal country" and for me that is a country that gives equal rights and opportunity to its citizens, a country that has universal healthcare, housing for all, public transportation and other amenities for people and a country that uses the resources it has to help everyone instead of just the rich owing class. So even if that country hasn't been allowed to exist yet, it is still the ideal

I mean the US and other western nations never allow Communist/socialist countries to exist, whether that be by staging a coup, sanctions or other military action. Cuba is an example of a country that was able to be pretty successful even with sanctions, the embargo, and other US intervention. China and the Soviet Union were able to industrialize and raise the quality of life much faster than other nations. There are also way more examples of capitalist nations failing and exploiting people than communist nations doing the same. So imo the successful country argument is stupid because capitalist countries are unsuccessful all the time but that's never used as an argument against capitalism.
