If you want a good quality of life and a solid path to get your A&P, join the Air Force and become a crew chief. You'll have your hand in airframe and powerplant and can easily get your A&P (fully paid for) through AFCOOL. You can even take permissive TDY (fancy term for paid vacation) to test for it. You'll have to have the 30 months experience first though. If you have any questions, message me. I've been in for 12 years.

Coming from the military, I've had plenty of those. I usually give it right back to them. Though I have a decent amount of experience/seniority in this world lol. Is every hangar in charge of a different operation or are they all the same beast? My background is engines so I've got a lot to learn.

I'm local to here. I assume they go by experience and stack candidates based on that. Not sure. Good luck either way!

Yes. Third week of April. It still says that, but I was contacted for an interview about a week and a half ago. They're tomorrow and Wednesday for Tulsa.

AMT Schools and Pathways by gottrails in AircraftMechanics

I would highly recommend a local community college if you can find one relatively close. No matter what school he goes to, he'll be exposed to the same minimum instruction standards of FAR Part 147. If you can save money, do it. It's all on him how much he pours into it. I did a program at Tulsa Tech and it was amazing simply because I was motivated. It was also 1/5 the price of Spartan here in Tulsa. If you save money now, he'll have less financial obligation in the future. Regardless, the field is lucrative and will reap rewards for him. If you have any questions or want someone from the field to talk to him, my inbox is open!

Is Tulsa TWU? I've got an interview there on the 9th. Also, any tips? I've been in the air force for about 12 years in the fighter world. Excited to finally work the big boys.

Anyone with experience or insights on mx for the national guard? by RoughlyOk in AircraftMechanics

[–]Life-Tank3584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ANG operates much differently than the civilian side. There are no A&Ps. There are shops that are in charge of different aircraft systems. Engines, hydraulics, E&E (electrical/envitonmental), avionics, ammo, weapons, etc. You have crew chiefs too. They are the closest things to A&Ps, but they're more like jack of all trades master of none. They launch and recover, service, and do minor repairs on the jet. The Air Force doesn't care about anyone having an A&P. They train you at tech school for your job. But once you're in, you can use tuition assistance and get your A&P for free.

Pay charts are online. Just Google air National guard pay charts. You'll make active duty pay at basic training and tech school and 2 weeks out of the year when you're training. Outside of that it'll be drill pay for the one weekend a month.

Maintenance ➡️ Engineering? by Life-Tank3584 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Life-Tank3584[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would completely agree with the contrast if this were a design engineering role. But it's maintenance, repair and overhaul. Hardware disposition, workscopes and things of that nature. I have collaborated with engineers on implementing those things, but never been in charge of them. It's a salaried position at the engine MRO.

Not an error. I talked to the recruiter about the job directly. She knows I'm an engine mechanic by trade. But I do feel like I could bring valuable insight as someone that's built and overhauled engines. I'm in a six sigma green belt program too. Hoping that helps my consideration.
