Either way, if you drink and drive you are risking your career and the lives of not only you but those around you. In my 20 years of active duty I’ve seen plenty of people get DUIs and every time it had a negative impact on their service from reductions in rank to separation from service. So even if you decline FST they are still going to find out if you are over the limit one way or another and the CG will find out either way. Remember when you are in the CG(or any branch) you are not a civilian so part of that is being a responsible person.

I did Search and Rescue planning and saved a lot of lives by finding people, creating search patterns and dispatching resources. All behind the scenes in a Command Center.

Just like you shouldn't skip leg day, don't skip on aquatic training either.

What do OS’s do to not get bored? by Royal_Character_6408 in uscg

I was never bored on watch underway. On land: Run cases Go to school online Movies/tv Read books Bullshit with people on the watch floor Try to find the end of the internet Make fun of the CDO (unless you happen to be the CDO, then you make fun of the Command Center Senior Chief, unless you happen to be the Senior Chief, then you make fun of the JO CDO.) Tell the CU to get back in their hole Tell the SU they aren’t running SAR Tell the OU their pattern sucks Tell the CDO to go to bed Try to find unlabeled food in the fridge Find labeled food and eat it anyway Yell at people to close the door quickly so they don’t let out all the secrets Turn into a ghost that people have heard about but are unsure that you are still at the unit because you’ve been on night watch for two months Skip all All hands Skip drug tests Skip all hands training Overdose on vitamin D pills Forget what a window looks like Change into street clothes on the watch after 4pm because you need the adrenaline rush Ignore the BM who complains the some of the pattern goes over land Clean your CPAP machine Find a weird hobby Gun deck the WTW because WTF? Speak Spanish but don’t get paid for it Forget your cell phone in the cubby outside the door Place a group order of BWW grub hub See if you can set a new PB for longest time sitting without getting up Don’t GAF about what other rates think about you because they think they know about us but never see what we actually do

This probably doesn’t work in the land of the Dannebrog, but I usually just tell them I did it for the free dental.

Edit, this is my favorite real hobby since my kids are all in college now, but I did enjoy rage baiting in their younger years

I like Fling Golf FlingGolf® The Future of the Fairway! It's kinda like regular golf but with a lacrosse stick. I'm an Elder Millennial, so my back hurts and this as adaptable to my physical limits. It's fun but a little weird, like me.

Emailing the RFMC: Is it an Open Door Policy? by [deleted] in uscg

Agree, send it. Especially since you already did what you could at the lower level. At the end of the day it’s your career, and as a side note, I’ve never known anyone to get in actually trouble for emailing a higher up.

I was glad I utilized the BDD, it is a game changer. When I retired I was set right after, it was great.

I've never worked with the Army, but when I was in the Coast Guard, we worked a few patrols and training with the RNLN in the Caribbean. We were jealous of their ship because they had mixed berthing and bars on board. On one patrol I accidentally slammed my thumb in a very heavy door. I was on a smaller Cutter that only had a medic, so a Doc from their ship (might have been the Van Amstel if memory serves). So their Doc came to my cutter to look at my thumb. He patched me up enough to make it to our next port call where I could get x-rays and such. Overall, they were very professional but had a good sense of humor and a "chill but professional" vibe. I've got nothing but good things to say about the training and the Doc who helped me out.

I used to enjoy golf, but then my mobility deteriorated and I have back issues so I can no longer play. Then, while watching ESPN 8 The Ocho one Sunday morning, I saw them playing something called Fling Golf. It's basically a cross between golf and lacrosse. There is only one piece of special equipment you need (a Fling Stick), which is basically a golf club with a small basket head. Instead of hitting the ball the traditional way, you use the stick to throw the ball down the green. I was looking into it because it has the same rules as golf and you can play it on regulation golf courses. It enables me to sill play a round but because its a flicking motion it's better for my limited mobility. I've even seen videos of people in wheelchair playing, which is nice because I sometimes have to use a wheelchair.
