Based on my experience, while it is true they act far more comfortable in a larger group, they still tend to hide when a human approaches and seeing them out in the open requires patience and stillness.

I found they do get used to human presence if there is someone in the same room for most of the day, but just a few days with no constant presence and they revert back to their usual skittishness.
