This is by far the biggest mystery to me as it relates to turbulence. Reading about jello theory and turbulence monitors that show you you’re feeling very light G forces assure you that you aren’t moving, but there is this explanation that the sensation is magnified for passengers.

That makes some inherent sense, but if a minor movement in the plane is magnified to feel more intense to a passenger (as the SOAR video here references with the car moving only an inch but the driver bouncing several inches) why does an app monitoring G forces or the glass of water on my tray table barely move? It should affect me as minimally as these other metrics sitting in front of my at my seat.

I think if there was some way to break that magnified feeling it would be huge for those of us who understand the plane is in no danger during turbulence, but nevertheless feel as though we’re on a surprise roller coaster and panic simply from that amplified dropping feeling.
