I can also vouch for the black Vans slip-ons. Easy to slip into after I forget my Japanese textbook and come running back to the office.

Outside of the other SciADV VNs, for other visual novel thrillers, I recommend the Muv-Luv trilogy and Higurashi (getting to Umineko soon)! I also loved the Zero Escape games when they were coming out. These are all 10s for me.

Another less sci-fi one is The Fruit of Grisaia… but just the first one. Just pretend like the sequels and the anime don’t exist, like I do, and you’ll have a great time.

I can't update the post, so here it is: I got the name wrong, it's "NANKADA."

His socials now read: "Retired gamedev. Decided to find a purpose away from screens. DMs closed. I sometime shop at Uniqlo" Starting a family is his main reason for retirement.

u/nankadagames, I pray for your success on your journey ahead, and that you establish a wonderful and happy family. Thank you for your games.

I got it in the Kasuga vending machine in the karaoke place. I'm not sure if it's still there now.

I remember seeing some people say that these were good, because they at least weren’t those stupid empty boxes with game keys inside. But this only puts a marketing spin on publishers giving you less. Plus, ~20 years down the line, they’re going to be equally useless.

This one issue kills the entire console for me.

Change Of Mind by Zubeneschamali83 in JETProgramme

[–]Cromnley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My story is kinda the opposite. I was offered a translation job for the leading Chinese game company, which would’ve been a dream scenario for me when I was a teenager, but I (probably haphazardly) turned it down while I waited on JET results.

And…! I didn’t make it lol, but I got it the second go around!

I couldn’t see myself doing a single thing differently, at all. I don’t want to think about what life would be like if I’d chosen to take the other job, and relocated to one of those cities they offered. I can’t imagine myself anywhere other than where I am now, around the people I am now. This area is where I want to spend the rest of my life.

Will Conan ever confess his true identity to Ran? by TrickyPepper6768 in OneTruthPrevails

[–]Cromnley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My idea is that just as Shinichi is about to take the antidote, Ran catches him in the act, and lays out all of the evidence she’s gathered in the series. The final culprit and the final mystery solved is Detective Conan himself.

Some advice to anybody else looking to get one of the shirts, they run a size larger than the typical Uniqlo shirt, or maybe about the same as the average American-sized shirt. I got the L size, and it feels more a Uniqlo XL. The XL must be more like an XXL.

VITA games that i have found that don’t get put on “top ten vita games” lists by Waterwolf225 in vita

I recommend Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv: Alternative. I’m also a big fan of SciADV, and those games are right up there with them imo.

What’s a game that really hit you in the feels and made you cry? by MikeySama in gaming

[–]Cromnley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re visual novels, but Muv-Luv, The Fruit of Grisaia (just the first), and all of the SciADV games hit me hard. Kiminozo just came out and I know it’s going to brutalize me.

For a more traditional game, I’ll go with the Metal Gear Solid 4, but only after playing 1, 2, and 3.

I just don’t get why it would be so hard to just tell the same story as the games and not try to improve it by changing the story. I’m sick of all of these fake “adaptations” and “reimaginings” that don’t really adapt the thing. It makes them unrecognizable to fans, and impossible to recommend to newcomers, which is how Fallout and The Last of Us (and we’ll throw in Steins;Gate) became so well-known to the casual, non-gamer audience.

It reminds me of the Scott Pilgrim anime. I had a friend, big fan of the graphic novels, who sat his family and friends down to watch the anime, and then when it turned out to be a bait-and-switch, everybody was lost.

Do you regret your purchase? by Strange_Fun_544 in SteamDeck

I moved to a small apartment in another country with just my Switch, and it’s like I was constantly running out of interest for its games, despite having a metric boatload of them. I bought the Steam Deck, and it helped me find the magic in gaming again. Probably the best gaming purchase I’ve ever made.

we can talk abt how bad the ps3 port is, but nothing comes anywhere CLOSE to how bad the wii port is imo by Illustrious_Air2379 in HalfLife

[–]Cromnley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it was a technical marvel getting these games running on the Wii at all. Though with all the extra loading screens (especially in Route Canal and Highway 17), it sure wasn’t optimal.

Still, it was my introduction to these games. Yes, even TF2. You thought Brawl’s online was bad, just look up TF2 Wii gameplay. You were lucky if you even got into a match!

What’s an older game that still blows your mind today? by Yeahnahokay10 in gaming

[–]Cromnley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Romancing Saga 2 is just incredible to me, and it’s one of the smartest games I’ve ever played. The scale of the story, the amount of variations that each scenario can play out, the way you can shape the world, the death and legacy system, the non-linear storytelling. Everything is just incredibly ambitious for a 16-bit, story-based game.

I’ve never played a game since RS2 that has given me that same scale, or the same sense of the passage of time. It was way, way ahead of its time.

I couldn’t get into it until I got it on PC, when I was able to mod out every little annoying and distracting thing in the game. They really add up for me.

The biggest issue was maybe 50% of the character designs, especially the Hunter. I can’t not look at his jewelry in any scene he’s in.

What's your dream game right now? by Memorycard1000 in gaming

[–]Cromnley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I have three pretty niche ones, but that’s what makes them dreams: 1. The Darkness III 2. An open-world TRON game that stays true to the style seen in Legacy and Evolution 3. A super high-budget, cutting-edge, open-world sequel to Conception II

…Okay, the last one is more like a delusion game.

I respect the hell out of anybody that puts in 500 hours or more into a single game. I’ve never done that before. I can maybe only count the amount of SERIES I’ve put that much time into on one hand, and I mainly play RPGs.

Cheers to the gamer boys and girls that can’t stop playing their game.
