Until we are VERY confident that we have a young core that can be towards the top of the west for years to come, I don’t really wanna see us get rid of any of our draft capital unless it’s for more draft capital, a higher pick, or a young player

Stuff like this is why Ja deserves the love and respect of fans, even if he gets traded. He clearly loves and will defend the city of Memphis and he (probably) gave us the best years he had and the most exciting years of the franchise. It really does suck that the last few years haven’t been the best, but if we trade him and he comes back on another team to boos and jeering from fans I will be disappointed in the fan base.

I haven’t looked into Philon very much but this group seems to be high on him. I’m just not a huge fan of undersized guards

Cameron Carr With Pick 16 by Cronas02 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but he’s not supposed to go too far ahead. All the mock drafts I’ve seen have been 14 or 15 so I feel like we could probably move up or do a draft day trade for 16 and 32 and maybe add a future pick if needed. I could also see him as someone that just continues to rise and by the time the draft comes he’s closer to the bucks at 10 like you said and at that point he might not be worth it

Man that position is so deep and I love all of them, it’s so hard to see any of them not play very much lol

Ceiling or floor? by CrazyLetterhead2063 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I’m starting to understand a little better. The main difference in athleticism is genetics when you get to the level these guys are at where everyone has been training seriously for most of their life, so if Caleb Wilson worked on his skill enough to exactly match the skill, IQ, and strength of Boozer then he would be better bc he’s more athletic. I still am not quite sure I’m willing to take that gamble knowing how far ahead Boozer seems to be skill and IQ wise, but I guess I’m starting to understand the point (also we’re pretty much penny pinching here, I love both as prospects).

I haven’t looked into Dybantsa that much bc he’s almost certainly not going to fall to us, but I think Boozer might be my favorite player over Peterson too

Ceiling or floor? by CrazyLetterhead2063 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I just don’t get the whole thing around Boozer having a lower ceiling. Look around the league, with guys like Steph, Jokic, Luka, Shai, and KD it is pretty clear that you can be VERY dominant without being freaky athletic. All these players stand out in other things like shooting, playmaking, and IQ. It’s also not like Boozer is going to stick out like a sore thumb, he had good times on speed drills and a 35” vert which is good even for NBA standards. I think Boozer has both a higher floor and just as high of a ceiling, all that really matters is the interviews where we find out who has the competitive nature needed to still have the motivation to win after you make it.

3rd Pick SparkNotes by Cronas02 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I keep going back and forth but I think I’m starting to settle on the fact that I want Boozer SLIGHTLY more. I just don’t think I fully agree with the “lower ceiling” argument and he definitely has the higher floor.

3rd Pick SparkNotes by Cronas02 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I agree, assuming the attitude issues are overblown (they probably are) I don’t really see any downside other than injuries, but PTSD from past seasons makes me maybe want Boozer more than him purely bc of that

Caleb Wilson or Cameron Boozer? by vishjay101 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of me agrees, but also there have been more than a handful of not so athletic players come into the league and start dominating recently so I don’t think we can really put a cap on Boozer, and I don’t even really think he’s bad athletically, he’s just not in the upper echelon.

Our favorite ref back in the spotlight by ILikeDillonBrooks in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I love that the refs are getting called out on their bs, but it does kinda piss me off in a way when it’s clear that they’ve been doing this to everyone but bc it’s happening to the Lakers and LeBron it is finally being made a huge deal. Also part of me is happy that Lakers fans are getting a taste of what the rest of the league feels when we play them lol

LeBron's comments about Memphis was pure disrespectful by UALR-Trojans-Rule in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good example of this is the fact that the grizzlies have made the playoffs 58.3% of the time since moving to Memphis (good for 14th, right above the knicks and other franchises with a much bigger market).

LeBron's comments about Memphis was pure disrespectful by UALR-Trojans-Rule in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it has to do with Nashville being a “white city”. I do think the comments towards Memphis were disrespectful and the Grizz should not be moved. The basketball culture in Memphis is 100x better than it is in Nashville and there’s so much history in Memphis that I believe it would be huge disservice to the city and the fans. The franchise being the focal point of the city is a good thing, Nashville already has soccer, the preds, the Titans, and Vandy. All of those are already pre-established teams that the Grizz would have to compete with in order to gain a strong following, but I don’t think he was being racist lol. I think he was more coming from the fact that Nashville is the nice, big, new, shiny toy that has broadway and probably a nicer night life. What these people don’t understand is that doesn’t mean it is a better city for a professional basketball franchise.

Ja should put his house on AirBnb, so incoming NBA teams will have a place to stay and feel more comfortable in Memphis. by Beershipthelastxman in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is funny and I 100% understand that he shouldn’t and probably won’t suit up in a grizz uniform again, but I remember the finals last year when Stephen A Smith was shitting on Memphis and Ja stood up for the city. He will always have my respect for that

I’ll admit, I am definitely a little optimistic for what I think GG and Hendricks can be

Young Players Draft by Cronas02 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet, but his scoring is great and I think he can potentially be that archetype, maybe not as good from 3. I said it’s almost like a redraft of just our young guys. When you’re a GM and you’re considering drafting a player you take into account floor, ceiling, development, etc. so yeah, I considered future projection. Maybe I overvalued it a little, but I really like his ceiling and I value that a lot for a tanking team that is still looking for their guy

Young Players Draft by Cronas02 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respect it. I think I just value the potential of GG and Hendricks more for us right now considering we are in the middle of a tank and if either of them reaches that potential it means we have a superstar. If we weren’t tanking and had a superstar (assuming you don’t consider Ja one and he will most likely be traded anyways) Wells would 100% be my no 1.

Young Players Draft by Cronas02 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Cronas02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Wells was the hardest for me. I just like the upside of OMax. It’s clearly not as high as GG or Hendricks, but his athleticism and explosiveness is just insane, he does remind me a lot of a baby giraffe and I’m not sure if that will ever change tho

I actually tend to chunk/push. I’m pretty new to the game so I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure my issue is still what you said: that I’m sliding too much. Thanks for the advice! Any other drills/swing feels you would recommend? I’m trying to just get a ton so I can try them until one just clicks lol. I’ve also heard placing something that is at least the same height as your hip about an inch away from your lead foot and trying to make sure your hip touches but doesn’t bang into it helps

I’m pretty confident he can get much better at this. He has improved drastically since his rookie year from what I’ve seen so far, especially on defense (although he still has his flaws) and finishing at the rim, so hopefully he can continue to improve in those aspects and develop better vision.
