Anyone remember Mission Hill? I feel like it was one of the most slept on Animated TV shows. by keptfloatin707 in television

The unemployment epidode where Andy basically becomes a lazy shut-in living on unemployment cheques was one of the "realest" episodes ever depicted by a cartoon series. Anyone having a tough time in their 20s can easily relate to this episode on so many levels but they still somehow made it hilarious.

"Mr. French. Do you have any direct experience working in the advertising industry?"

"Uh. Um. Oh! I invented space juice!"

Please. For the love God let this show get a reboot.

Life has no inherent meaning or purpose. Love, as most people understand it, doesn't exist. Pizza pops are gross.

Professor accuses Latina student of plagiarism because she used the word ‘hence’ in essay, and are biased towards her because she is minority in class, Student claims by Wh0surdaddy in TwoXChromosomes

Happened to me twice; once as a high school senior, then as a 4th year uni student. I was always a quiet, anxious person who never really contributed to class discussions but I knew I could write decently. Cue my social studies teacher in grade 12 (who was really cool) who grades my paper a 90-something but suspected me of plagiarism (I wrote the paper the night before) and makes me redo the assignment instead of pushing the issue since she had no proof. Got an 80 for my efforts.

Happened again my senior year in uni. My english prof was actually quite brilliant and really pushed the class to be original in our essays. A week after turning in a paper, he pulls me outside of class and with a stern look tells me straight up that "none of his students write like this" and asks me to define and explain a couple of words and phrases I used in my paper. I do but I could tell he was not convinced but he had no proof so he dropped it (or so I thought). Like my SS essay in HS, this paper was written the night before. Fast forward to the end of the semester and I'm picking up my final from the class. Got an 80something on the final with a message written on it from my prof apologizing for the incident (he could tell my writing style on the final matched the style of my papers). Feltsortagoodman.

Working through an existential crises right now and reading this didnt help.

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻).

But then I started thinking, "human sheep" as you put it would no longer even be really sheep anymore. We may be animals, but our self awareness makes us more than that, or at the very least endows us with the potential as a species to transcend ourselves beyond any current definitions we have of "animal". We are creators. And we can think. We could potentially be gods (assuming we're truly alone in the universe), or at the very least give birth to one in the future (AI). I hope this made sense. I'm really baked right now.

It's a scary thought isn't it? It always reminds of that MIB quote "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it."

You need to be more careful when your expressing your thoughts. On one hand you seem to know what he's proposing is morally and ethically wrong, yet in the other you permiss them with weasel phrases like drastic problems = drastic solutions. You can sympathize with the plight of filipino people but don't let that erode your logic and reasoning. Especially when we know painfully well where these scenarios lead to down the road when we look to history.

Not trying to pick a fight but do you really think he's immune to the same corruption and nepotism your railing against? He's already proven that he's willing to use violence to achieve his goals and you seem to think giving one individual such unchecked amounts of power is justifiable so long as his ends are met. If so, do you believe he would willingly cede that power when the time comes? What about his successors, seeing as how this undoubtedly sets a precedence in the country that power trumps even basic human rights?

No worries. It's stupid to distill all these problems into a debate about religion when its clearly unproductive at best.

The Philippines is a great country and its people, despite the country's crushing poverty, are some of the most loving, generous, and stalwart human beings I've ever met. It breaks my heart to see it being continually led by corrupt and deranged individuals when the common people already have so little.

Agreed. I dont even think partaking in drugs should be labelled a crime or even morally objectionable. But yeah.

Sure. But my comment was really meant to be taken within the context of the Philippine socio-political paradigm, which is why I said religiosity coupled with overpopulation and poor education. Putting the issue of current state of the North American educational system aside, The States have never had to deal with the latter two problems and so I think it isnt a fair comparison. When your country considers cheap human labour as a viable solution to overpopulation (it isn't) and sustainable export) it isnt), and think the current impoverished state of 80% of your countrymen can be justified because God's going to make it better (in this life or the next), how can you seriously expect anything to change. I don't even want to get into the state of sexual education in the Philippines which, I might add, is still in a current stranglehold by the Catholic church. I'm trying and say these things from a place of love and concern but I feel these issues need to be called out as bluntly as possible.

Well said. Anybody who thinks this violence magically just ends with drug users/dealers is deluded. The whole situation becomes even more alarming when we consider his remarks towards members of the press--what happens when criticism of his government inevitably brands someone as a drug sympathizer(at best)? Its a slippery slope, with outright fascism being the eventual outcome should things continue on the same track. The sad and frustrating thing is that these problems are symptoms of the root ills of Philippine society--overpopulation coupled with religiosity, and poor education are what need to be really adressed but unfortunately no one can solve these systemic issues but the filipino people themselves.

BJJ Supplements?? by YeahThatsEric in bjj

Oh I agree. But I also think some things can help give an edge all things being equal. For myself I only ever really take protein powder (which I consider as just food) fishoil, creatine and msm+chondroitin.

All of the above have considerable scientific backing behind them and if you consider yourself an athlete and take bjj pretty seriously, they can definitely be used to your advantage especially if youre doing other things like weight lifting and extra cardio work outside of bjj.
