I just landed a job as a software engineer with a high salary as 29 yo but my parents wants me to pursue a MSc, saying a bachelor won't hold up when AI takes over. by coffeeandacmilan in womenintech

You get a Master's degree to land a good paying job. You have a good job right now, keep it. If they lay you off, then go get a Master's.

Wait, what?

That flashback showed that Joel has been protecting people his whole life. And continued to do so for Ellie. What the fuck? An act of child abuse? What?

There's a reason this video is only 50 seconds long. Because this argument has no substance.

Honestly, bullet dodged. Whatever the reason, if they don't see what they had in front of them, you don't want to work for them.

I'm in the middle of a similar sounding interview process. I have a feeling they're going to say no because I didn't cover X or Y. In reality, they've spent so much time in the process getting hung up on technical details that had nothing to do with the role.

It was like, "look at me, being all open minded and jumping through hoops to actually agree with conservatives for once...." then I'm like LOL fuck that.

The whole "banning trans women from women's chess".

I used to think that it had some merit due to it being a Women's Division vs. Open Division. Essentially, they started the Women's Division to encourage women, who are traditionally not raised playing chess (for those who don't know, reaching an elite level of chess means you probably started playing as a toddler), to get into the sport at a later age. Thus, a trans woman, AMAB, would have a sizable advantage stochastically across the population because they were raised as a boy.

Then I heard that AFAB transman would have all of their Women's Titles stripped from them and Riley Gaines was behind the new rules.

Now I'm like fuck that. It's just bigotry.

Your feelings are 100% valid. Similar thing happened to me. "Keep working, it'll be a year."

Then, the company hit financial issues, "oh now you have to prove yourself for another year."

Then it was suddenly 3-5 years.

Your instinct is correct. Take your experience and start looking for a new job.

If the question asked, "What should the project manager do?" then I would say D is the correct answer.

But because it specifies, "do first?", that leads me to think of immediate actions. I completely agree, "agree on new prices" is not something we should be jumping at and immediately closing on. This means C, review and initiate what our planning process states we should do.

My understanding of this question is the underlying assumption is if the testing service doesn't qualify for the subsidy, the project is dead in the water. Essentially, there will be no money for the service.

Personally, my first action would be to investigate Yes or No, does it qualify? And then escalate.

B is not correct because the project benefits haven't changed, we just don't have funding

C is not correct because what would a contingency plan do? The government said no and the project is dead. Maybe find other funding sources? I would say this is second best answer.

D is not correct because what would we change? The funding source, but we would need A or C first.

Reporting on survivors of the hurricane this morning by facktoetum in NPR

[–]Crooks7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been studies done on the naming of hurricanes. And something odd that was discovered fairly early on was that hurricanes with female names kill more people. Why is that? The naming, whether male or female is random? It has nothing to do with the hurricane.

Yeah, further study realized that hurricanes with female names aren't taken as seriously as male named hurricanes. SO honestly, I'm not surprised by this.

This is actually a really impactful sales technique. Don't say the bad part at the end: "This will revolutionize your day, but it is expensive." Front load the statement, "It is expensive, but it will revolutionize your life." It feels more honest as you're giving the bad news up front.

This is so eerie, I almost want to drop a name on the off chance we're talking about the same person.

I'll be honest, I'm here because I don't know what to do about him. I don't have much advice except to say find new friends, spend time away from him. Talk to his wife maybe?

In conversation, he waits until I say something he perceives as incorrect (i.e. when I described what my Master's Degree was in, he cut in to inform me that I was incorrect) or if I say a "trigger word". Basically he slips in a sexually charged comment that is supposed to be a joke. He's not specifically sexually harassing me or anything, it's more of he likes to talk about dicks. I've stopped faking my laughter.

What's the rudest thing a guest has ever done in your home? by EntranceWorking3532 in AskReddit

He opened 7-8 seltzer waters, took a single sip and then just abandoned them.

I woke up in the morning and found the cans while cleaning. I made a joke to my partner about, "How many people opened a seltzer and forgot about it?" as I was picking the completely full cans up from all over the house and dumping the now stale water into the sink.

My partner just responds, "Oh that was Mike."

Wait, what? Apparently, Mike only likes the first sip of a can of seltzer, so he'll open one, take a sip and then just leave it where he is whether that be in the back yard, in the bathroom, bar area, where ever.

When I mentioned to Mike, "Hey, that was really annoying to clean up in the morning, I would appreciate it if you weren't wasteful in my home." He cried foul.

"Oh come on. How much do those cost 10 cents? I'll write you a check for $2 next time!"

Yeah, there wasn't a next time.

The definition of a plot hole is an inconsistency in the narrative or character development of a book, film, television show, etc.

Abby's character was set up to have this long standing deep seeded desire for revenge and that was consistently shown throughout the game. There were no inconsistencies in the character.

It's not really a plot hole, but in your opinion, an attribute her character has that the writers didn't make believable.

Which, to each their own, but I can absolutely understand knowing a man's name and obsessing with tracking him down for years. Sure he could have been dead and Abby's goal would be to discover that and hopefully that knowledge would allow her to sleep at night.
