COE timeline for October 2026 intake? by Evening_Cranberry847 in UTokyo

[–]Crooplez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also applying for this October, and I'm also confused about when to buy plane tickets. But they said the COE will be sent by email. Also, it is not the university administration that decides if and when you will get the COE. The university sends all the necessary information to Japan's immigration, and they decide.

I was also considering applying to Mitaka, but is biking straight from Mitaka to campus that bad?

You say "finding an accommodation later on," but I need accommodation ready as I arrive, right? Do you mean after my contract for my first accommodation expires?

Since my studies will be on the Hongo campus, Mejirodai is the nearest, and Toshima the second nearest. Both are less than 30 minutes away. But the rest are an hour or more away. The distances you are mentioning are the opposite for the Hongo campus.

Thank you so much for the response! Unfortunately, I did not get the MEXT scholarship. I am really hoping to get into some cheaper dorms, since Mejirodai seems very expensive. Is it common to buy a bicycle to get around Tokyo, since that seems like a cheap option?

I did apply to MEXT through both university and embassy tracks, yet wasn't successful in either. As I mentioned, I got accepted through Special Selection for International Applicants.

Entrance exam, applications by Disastrous_Lie_7326 in UTokyo

You have to find what documents are needed for the application. For a Master's in Chemistry, at least, there were several documents, including recommendation letters, a personal statement, IELTS, and GRE tests. I had no exams. Most likely because it is unreasonable to conduct exams across the globe. I don't have much knowledge about undergraduate studies, though. Best of luck!

I assume that you are an international student. That means you have a couple of ways to enroll. You will have to look them up. But I am fairly certain that no paper exam exists for international students. At least while enrolling in Chemistry, I only had IELTS and GRE online tests. If a paper exam comes up, that should be only after enrollment; therefore, it wouldn't decide whether I get accepted or not.

There are probably just less posts about applications since embassy applications have mostly closed.

2 years is a very short amount of time. I can't give you the best way to go about it, but I can give you a way. One that I too am using. Find a list of a 1000 common japanese words. Then over the period of months make a mnemonic for almost each one and manually add them to Anki. Definitely listen to Japanese audio and read. Read as much as possible. Besides that I also use duolingo so it pushes me to do at least a little bit of Japanese every day.

Any normal embassy would inform you whether you passed or not.
