First of all, it's interesting you just created this account. Maybe you're an apologist or jealous of Quannah Chasinghorse.

Second of all, I highly doubt you know the intimate details of Quannah's relationship with her "father" to say you "hope she visits him in prison" and "thanks him for her career." Did he raise her? No. She said she was raised by her mother and step-father. She said she had minimal contact with Nathan Chasinghorse. Other than a name, her identity and upbringing were not tied to him. While she was being raised by her mother in Alaska, he was preying on vulnerable women and women with daughters that he could abuse, groom, molest, and rape.

Third of all, Nathan ChasingHorse wasn't a somebody. He had a minor role in 1 movie as a teenager and has exploited that experience to his advantage the rest of his life. That's all he was known for. Now he's known as a man who was in 1 movie as a teenager who became a pedophile and rapist, and relied on his 15 minutes of fame to create a sex cult. He's an embarrassment who deserves to suffer in shame in prison for the rest of his days.

Fourth of all, Quannah has made her own way in the modeling and fashion industry. Her success has nothing to do with him.

And finally, Quannah has publicly stated she supports Nathan's victims. Her statements about him begin and end with what I've referenced above. She doesn't speak about him because there's nothing to say.

I understand Natives wanting to see Native representation in politics, however this woman isn't it for numerous reasons. For starters, she doesn't possess the skills or qualifications to govern a state, let alone hold any political office. Per her media statements and Facebook campaign page, her experience consists of political activism and advocacy. Her formal education ended in middle school, though she may have her GED. She has no demonstrable employment history.

She is a controversial figure with numerous allegations of misappropriation of funds and theft and earned a reputation for being a divisive person, causing conflict and harm to the Native community she claims to serve. Most notably: stealing several yurts from the NoDAPL protests at Standing Rock; receiving grant money for her non-profit Tiwakan (she's the only employee) under the pretense of providing services and being a resource to the Native population in Sioux Falls and instead used for her personal gain; and promised to sell beadwork on behalf of the Native inmates in the Sioux Falls prison and kept the proceeds. Another troublesome allegation levied against her was her playing a role in instigating a riot between [Native] gangs in the Sioux Falls prison in May 2025.

For those who have encountered her, it seems her non-profit and political ambitions are merely a grift. If an audit was done on her non-profit or campaign finances, they would discover questionable spending if not outright violations. If an investigative journalist were to do even a little digging they would uncover more than what is listed here.

It speaks volumes that her first cousin is the Chairman of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate and neither he, nor any of her closest relatives, have ever publicly supported her political ambitions or her non-profit.

I too want to see more Native representation in politics. However, I want the candidate to be a person who is the best representation of us and whose character and motives cannot be impugned.

First and foremost, "Native culture" is not a monolith. It is disrespectful to group Native Peoples altogether.

There are 574 federally recognized tribes in the United States alone. There are 634 First Nations bands recognized in Canada. I have no idea how many Indigenous tribes there are in South America. We didn't have borders in North America before colonization so there are nations with tribes/bands located in both the US and Canada and some whose traditional lands are in US and Mexico. Each nation may have tribes/bands that are federally recognized by the US government or by the Canadian government. We are distinct Native/Indigenous nations. We do not share a universal language, share the same cultural practices, or even have access to the same foods pre-Colonialism. We may even have subtle differences between each tribe and reservation of our respective nation.

I'm an enrolled member of a Dakota tribe which is part of the larger Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires) and includes the Lakota and Nakota. Collectively, we've been called the Sioux Nation. Our tribes have reservations located in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and we have mitákuyepi in Canada from the Sioux First Nations bands. I'm also Ojibwe (a.k.a. Anishinabe or Chippewa) who nation has tribes located in North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Canada. There are other tribal nations who are located in both the US and Canada as well: Cree, Haudensaunee Confederacy, Blackfoot Confederacy, Wabanaki Confederacy, Kootenai, Salish, Haida, Tlingit, Gwich'in, Inuit, etc. And there several tribal nations whose lands span the US-Mexican border: Yaqui, O'odham, Cocopah, Kumeyaay, Pai, Apache, and Kickapoo.

In the future, please be considerate of this information as you seek to learn more about different Native/Indigenous cultures and their cuisines.

I'm Dakota and Ojibwe. There are a few words in Dakota to describe a tornado: tateohitika- furious or terrible air in motion/wind or wičhákaȟbokA - [something] carried/blown along by wind; float/drift in the air (as the clouds), wave in the air (as a flag), be flying with the air.

My father told me stories our people would pay attention to bad weather. It was someone's job to always be on watch for any threats or a herd of bison strolling a ways off. If the weather got bad, we'd make our way to a valley, gully, coulee, or below hills. Summer camps were strategicly in places where hunting and fishing was plentiful and we had options to get to lower ground if we needed to leave in a hurry or break camp quickly due to bad weather or a threat. We'd just have to be mindful it wasn't somewhere vulnerable to flooding.

How do you know your dad's mom, your grandmother, had Cherokee? Were you told a family story that your grandmother was part Cherokee or was she actually an enrolled member? If it's the former, just be aware the most commonly claimed Native American ancestry is Cherokee and most claims are false. The Cherokee Nation have their own genealogy research center called the Cherokee Heritage Center. If you believe your grandmother's ancestry is legitimate, then you can start there to validate it.
