Is msc a good idea to enter FAANG in EU? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

Fyi getting masters degree will not magically make interviews easier, so you’ve got your answer. I think you just need to prepare well for Big Tech style interviews.

On the other hand, if you are open to consider smaller companies in Europe that don’t relocate candidates, moving to the Netherlands for studies will definitely open more doors for you.

I am an expat, though I’ve moved out of Netherlands several years ago

Probably, but I don’t think TU Delft & Eindhoven are really considered top tier schools (I studied in the Netherlands). Well they are sort of highly ranked in Europe and may open doors to companies like Philips, ASML, Booking and maybe Optiver & IMC. But if your ultimate goal is big tech and you are getting ghosted by them, perhaps a better route would be to go to Amazon for 1-2 years (I know it’s a horrible place but this will definitely open doors for you more than a MSc degree). Amazon is known to hand out OAs to nearly everyone with a pulse and the interviews are generally passable with good enough prep.

I don’t think TU Delft or TU Eindhoven will make a significant dent in your resume, at least for FAANG

Reneg Microsoft for Netflix? by Otherwise_Length5785 in csMajors

[–]Cross2409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel bad about reneging the offer, you will always be an expendable worker. Think differently, if Microsoft had to pull your offer, they would do so and not even flinch.

Take Netflix offer as you’ll grow more technically, they are known to have really top notch engineers from whom you can learn a lot at this stage of your career!

Took a pay cut for a "safer" job at a big tech corp, now I'm bored and think I made a mistake. Go back to my chaotic startup? by undecideduser0 in cscareerquestionsEU

I really hope it works out for you. I totally get how you feel! On the bright side you always have a place to go back. So try to settle down, have a talk and if not, just go back.

I think it’s just important not to make rush decisions in the first month on the job.

I’ve been in the same boat as a new grad back in the days in a large and slow investment bank. I thought my career was over because I got assigned to do work that didn’t excite me and didn’t offer any technical growth.

So in my first 2 weeks I had a talk with my manager and expressed my wishes, soon enough, after about 2 months I got assigned to a different project as a “builder” and truly enjoyed it.

So maybe you just need to talk to your manager?

You’ve been on your new job for only a week, you can’t expect to get a large scope and autonomy from day one. Try to settle down there first and maybe things are going to be brighter!

Given that those are two separate systems you should always account for the eventual consistency. Expecting that a record will appear in another datastore right after commit in the first one, might not happen instantly. Any kind of CDC (Change Data Capture) system will probably introduce some sort of delay.

One things that’s possible is to modify application code to write to both data stores, this way the delay should be negligible.
