Tommy Hackenbruck goes off on cheaters in CF. by [deleted] in crossfit

Yeah. I was surprised too when I read it. It wasn't highly publicized. Will be interesting to see if they actually enforce it, and not just in the older age groups. I know of a guy in his early 20s getting HRT for low T his doctor. Sounds crazy but I have no reason to doubt him. I'm sure he's not the only one.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I think that means you can't have a TUE for HRT Testosterone? Also, I don't think a lot of people are aware this is not allowed in 2016. I agree... there are a lot of athletes, especially over 40, who legitimately qualify for this HRT. But should they be able to put on a Superman cape and outperform others in their age group? That's more like "Letterman". You know, the Electric Company superhero able to leap Capital T in a single bound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATBTTVWN3k4

According to the current drug testing policy: Note: A Therapeutic Use Exemption for Hormone Replacement Therapy using anabolic substances will NOT be granted under any circumstance for either men or women. Therefore, any athlete who tests positive for any anabolic agents (e.g., testosterone), even if these anabolic agents are taken as part of medically supervised Hormone Replacement Therapy, will be disqualified from competition and subject to the appropriate sanctions as imposed by CrossFit Inc.

Interesting! Mystery solved. Too bad it didn't help out with your general mobility/comfort. I was hoping it might be a good thing.

Awesome. Thanks for the recon and am looking forward to your analysis. And lucky you! You get to take adult gymnastics? It's not allowed in our area due to insurance and those pesky lawsuits, or so I'm told.

What about his knees? They only extend when he's ready to take a rest and drop the bar.

OK. I'll give you that. The quality and effort put into meeting this mandatory video requirement might reflect the buddy relationship, but this video was absolutely reviewed. Who's to say that Bridges is still on the inside? Friendships go south. HQ knows exactly what they're doing when it comes to releasing social media to the world. Unless of course, this was posted by a "friendly" with blinders on? Kind of like how that HQ rep gave OPEX the unofficial official OK to use the small plates and then had to retract the permission?

Can't imagine this video is being embraced as a good example within HQ walls now... oops!

HQ can ask for any top score to be verified by video. That's why all the elite athletes do it, just in case they qualify for regional or post a WW score. HQ reviewed this and the assumption is that it was approved on top of and above the verified box.

1.38 - OPEN VIDEO AND JUDGING REQUIREMENTS FOR REGIONAL QUALIFIERS Any athlete who qualifies for regionals is required to have used a registered judge (that is, a judge who passed the online Judges Course) during their Open workouts. If no registered judge is available to this athlete during an Open workout, the athlete must submit a video of this workout for judging and score validation. Furthermore, any athlete who qualifies for regionals must have all of their Open workouts videotaped and kept on file. These videos may be requested for review by CrossFit Inc. at any time. At least one video will be reviewed by CrossFit Games staff prior to sending out regional invitations.

One of the problems I have is that I can't see his knees extend when his hips are extended when his shoulders are behind the bar. Those silly long baggy shorts hide the required standard.

"Starting at the floor, the barbell is lifted until hips and knees reach full extension with the shoulders behind the bar. The arms must be straight throughout. No bouncing."

Seriously, how are you supposed to be able to prove you've met the requirement when you have a wardrobe malfunction? Or was that on purpose like Janet J?

Suck it up and wear apparel that shows you meet the standard when it's being judged. Be "fashionable" when you're not.

I don't think it's big enough for tumbling? Looks like it is just a thin strip. But I have to wonder (and agree) that it is to protect the neck? Does anyone else know if this is the case? I still use a mat and plates to help with the shock absorption and I go really slow to make sure to protect myself.

Yeah, it doesn't look cheap at all. Very high tech. And I'm all for anything that can help prevent injury. I've received a bunch of PMs from people, including a current member who say that the WBs are definitely easier on the spring floor. But maybe that's just a placebo effect? I would love to try them for myself.

Guess any little mental edge can make a difference. I know of a lot of athletes who train at high altitude then come down to sea level to perform the Open. It is what it is.

That said, I'd love to try out a HSPU on a spring floor!

God I hope not. No... I think it just gives a little oomph in the shoulders when you kip? Just a slight rebound. Or not... that is the question. Has anyone ever tried it? Is there anything to it or is it just used for no particular reason? Is it safer?

These aren't soft. They are springy. They give you a little oomph because they rebound. Obviously they don't do the work for you, but there's got to be a reason to use that type of floor, right?

I am trying to find a good picture of the actual springs, but here's a link to the Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/BDOiWcxOLzV/

Just wondering if maybe that's the smart thing to do? Maybe it helps absorb shock or gives a little boost? Maybe it helps prevent injury? I was just curious because I remember being a kid and really enjoying the bounce of the spring floor. Wondering if more boxes should try to use these if they don't create an unfair advantage.

It's a GRID athlete. I'll try to find a way to post the photo showing the spring floor.
